single passenger on board.
opened a new era of travel. It is
the longest-range aircraft ever
built.
The A330/A340 Family has integrated state-of-the-art technology in its overall operation,
including: fly-by wire flight control, side-stick controller, and
digital avionics to support these
functions.
The A330/340 hydraulic system
is comprised of three fully independent systems — Blue,
Green and Yellow — to furnish
the hydraulic power required to
operate flight controls, landing
gear, spoilers, flaps and slats,
cargo doors, nosewheel steering, thrust reversers and the
emergency electrical generator.
Each hydraulic system operates
at a nominal pressure of 3000
psi (207 bar).
Four Eaton Vickers® brand model
PV3-300-EA2 series variable displacement inline piston pumps
are installed on each
A330/A340. These engine driven
pumps are equipped with an
inlet boost impeller and electrical depressurization valve (EDV).
The three air-cooled, continuously rated motorpumps
(Vickers® brand MPEV3-032-15)
are AC electric motor driven
inline design, variable displacement pumps.
Latest deliveries of the A340600 platforms have introduced
new features such as lowerdeck facilities, which include
galleys with a trolley lift to the
main deck, creating more seating capacity on the main deck.
In addition, airlines have chosen
to install mini suites in First
Class cabins and AFIS (Airbus In
Flight Information System).
The Vickers® brand engine driven pump (PV3-300-EA2) (EDP)
provides primary hydraulic
power for each of the three
independent systems, Blue,
Green and Yellow. The Green
system is powered by two
EDPs, and the Blue and Yellow
systems are each powered by
one EDP.
The A340-500 now flies the
world's longest air routes, such
as Dubai to New-York, and
Singapore to Los Angeles. With
the ability to fly economical
routes of up to 9000
nm./16,600 km., the A340-500
The hydraulic motor-driven generator (model CMV3-022-EA3C

A340 aircraft while the CMV3049-EA1A is rated at 8 kVA for
the A330 aircraft. A generator
control unit (MGC-050-EA2E
and MGC-EA1C) (GCU) controls
the emergency generator by
providing speed regulation, voltage regulation, and protective
functions.
The Stab Trim hydraulic motor
(Vickers® brand model MF3-075EA1J and MF3-075-EA2A) actuates the horizontal stabilizer on
the aircraft. Eaton’s Actuation
Systems provides the ground
service hydraulic manifold, priority valve, solenoid valve, and
fuse manifold associated with
right or left pitch trimmers. In
addition, the A330 is equipped
with a reverse actuator.
All three systems provide power
for primary flight controls
(ailerons, elevators and rudder).
The Blue system provides
hydraulic power to the slats,
speed brakes, parking brakes,
spoilers, pitch trim and thrust
reversers. The Yellow system
also provides power to flaps,
speed brakes, spoilers, pitch
trim, cargo doors, and thrust
reversers. The Green system
provides hydraulic power for
thrust reversers, leading edge
flaps and slats, the emergency
electrical generator, landing
gear, and nosewheel steering.
Emergency power provided in
the Green system is aided by a
ram air turbine.
The Airbus A330/A340 Family of
aircraft engines are also
equipped with Tedeco® brand
chip detectors, located in the
secondary power system oil
flow. The collectors capture ferrous wear particles from gears
and bearing that could indicate
impending failure. Tedeco®
brand chip collectors are
equipped with self-closing
valves permitting withdrawal of
the magnetic probe for visual
inspection of the collected
debris, with minimal lost of oil.
The aircraft engines are also
equipped with Tedeco® brand liquid level indicators that provide a
viewing port that allows the operator to check oil level in the auxiliary power unit. A high contrast
feature provides excellent readability in subdued light. Another
level indicator is the sight gauge,
which is mounted on the oil reservoir of the engine to provide visual indication of operating fluid levels. The gauge is designed to
withstand direct flame impingement without fluid loss.
Eaton's filler plug has an easy
opening quick-disconnect filler cap
with strainer to allow operators to
add oil into the APU and starter
housings.
Eaton also provides a full-flow
debris monitor which is a special
low-pressure drop housing that
enhances the capture efficiency
of chip detector in the gas turbine
engine.

70902-3
Ground Manifold
71035-5
Priority Valve
The Ground Manifold is used for
maintenance on the ground. It isolates manually, either hydraulic supply to the right wing, left wing or tail
primary flight controls for servo-controls internal flow leakage measurement. The manifold contains a pressure compensated, spring return
shutoff valve. The valve either directs
ground service supply pressure to a
section of the flight control hydraulic
system or permits the aircraft's
hydraulic supply to pass through.
The Priority Valve is designed to
control the amount of flow exiting each of its outlet ports
based on its inlet port pressure.
As the inlet pressure decreases
below a predetermined setting,
a poppet in the valve closes off
one of the outlet ports and,
therefore, gives precedence to
the other outlet port.
The valve is designed to operate in
the environmental conditions specified in AIRBUS Specification SPE A
2900 A 006 C.
71145-1
Solenoid Valve
71461-1
Fuse Manifold
The Solenoid Valve for the
A330/A340 is a two- position, threeway DC solenoid operated valve for
3000 psi (207 bar) service. With
solenoid de-energize, the pressure
port is connected to the system supply port. When the solenoid is energized, the consumer supply port
connects to the return port.
6
The Fuse Manifold contains two
hydraulic fuses that are designed for
a 3000 psi (207 bar) system. The
manifold is used in the hydraulic system for the nose wheel door actuation. In case of a malfunction, if the
flow exceeds the design limit, the
fuse will shut off the flow preventing
fluid loss.
EATON CORPORATION AEROSPACE C5-23 December 2004
71179-1
Hydraulic Pitch Trimmer Manifold
Assembly
The Manifold Assembly consists of
one manifold, one fuse unit, one
relief valve and one check valve for
use in the landing gear hydraulic system. The Manifold is designed to
operate with Skydrol fluid at 266 bar
pressure.
The fuse unit prevents the complete
loss of a system in failure scenarios.
If the unit's predefined maximum
flow rate is exceeded, the fuse closes and inhibits flow to downstream
consumers. The fuse permits flow
up to the design set point. In the
flow exceeds the design limit the
fuse will shut off preventing fluid
loss.
This prioritization ensures that
systems deemed critical will
receive flow in situations where
there is low system pressure.
The priority valve will give priority to the flight controls over all
other systems such as it will
give priority to the leading edge
flaps over landing gear actuation
71396
Power Door System Actuator
The hydraulic actuator is
designed for use in a 3000 psi
(207 bar) hydraulic system and
4000 lbs of axial load.
Flexible Hose Assemblies
Eaton’s Aeroquip® brand assemblies are utilized throughout the
A330/A340 aircraft. The standard wire braided technology is
being used for the low and
medium pressure hose assemblies and Kevlar® braised technology is being used for the high
pressure hose assemblies.
1817 Series Swivels for Main
Landing Gears
Eaton’s 1817 series swivels are
used on the main landing gear
of the A340 to allow the needed
rotational motion during landing
gear extend and retract. The field
proven 1817 series swivels
incorporate ball bearings that
take the end load caused by the
high system pressures resulting
in low break out and running
torques.
Changeover Valve (COV) for
Nose Wheel Steering
(A340-500/600)
1800 Series Quick Disconnects
for Galley Cooling (A340)
Eaton’s COV is a precision
machined rotary valve used in
the nose wheel steering of the
A340-500/600. Its primary purpose is to supply hydraulic pressure to the push-pull actuators
that drive the nose gear around
when steering on the ground.
The design is a dual passage
valve whereby the outlet ports
vary from high pressure to
return pressure depending on
what the orientation of the nose
gear is.
The 1800 Series Quick
Disconnect couplings are
Eaton’s Aeroquip® brand standard
stainless steel thread together
couplings that have been selected for use in the galley cooling
coupling application. Special seal
materials are incorporated in the
couplings for compatibility with
the Galden fluid used in the
application. The design is a one
hand thread together design
with a ratchet sleeve on the
hose half that must be pulled
back to allow disconnection.
Hydraulic Ground Service
Equipment (GSE) Couplings
Eaton’s Aeroquip® brand GSE
couplings are used to connect
the aircraft hydraulic system to
the ground cart to allow system
check on the ground without the
operation of the aircraft hydraulic
system. Eaton’s standard interface allows connection to common ground carts throughout
the world.
