BASIC STORAGE DEVICES
INTRODUCTION
We are going to learn about the basic storage
devices of a personal computer. We shall learn the
types and state the importance of the basic
storage devices of the personal computer.

A storage device is any device that can be used to store
date/information temporarily or permanently and at the
same time retrieve information from them.
There are two types of storage devices they are
Primary storage device
Secondary storage device
PRIMARY STORAGE DEVICE is a medium that holds data
for a short period of time while the computer is running.
Examples are Random Access Memory (RAM) and Cache.
SECONDARY STORAGE DEVICE is any non-volatile medium
that holds date until it is deleted or overwritten.
Examples are Hard Disk Drive, Optical Disc, Pen Drives
DIFFERENCE BETWEEN PRIMARY STORAGE
DEVICE AND SECONDARY STORAGE DEVICE.

It is cheaper and larger.
It is connected through
data buses to the CPU.
It is connected through
data cables to the CPU.
It is slower.
STORAGE MEDIA
Storage media is a material on which data are
written and stored.
A storage medium is any technology used to place,
keep and retrieve data.
Examples are floppy disk, optical disc, hard disk,
memory cards and pen drives.
