The digestive system migration of food inside your body First, you chew your food. when you chew you food, it breaks down into smaller particles. The saliva mixes with the food particles, and the tongue pushes it into the oesophagus, also known as the food pipe. When the food particles have traveled through the food pipe, it reaches the stomach. It stays there for 4 hours. The stomach releases a lot of acids and enzymes, which further breakdowns the particles so it can be absorbed by our body.An enzyme called pepsin in the stomach breaks down the proteins. Once the food particles reach the small intestine, a lot of juices from the liver help break down the particles further. The liver secretes bile, which helps break down the fats. Now that all the food particles are broken down,The small intestine absorbs them, and transfers them to our body through the blood.Particles which are not absorbed by the small intestine are absorbed by the large intestine. The large intestine absorbs water and other particles, and sends the waste materials our of your body through the rectum.
