Negative Experience During this module we looked at lots of different things and also made and presented multiple presentations, the main presentation was the presentation for HSBC where we were given five problems and we had to come up with proposals and solutions for these problems during this time we encountered a few problems within the group, such as time management and how to effectively work as a team. The main reason for these problems was that people had in my opinion different ways of working and completing their work for the deadline, I like to get my work done well before the deadline, especially when my work will have an impact on the grades of others and I did this successfully along with the majority of my group for this project, as I didn’t want to let everyone down, however there was one person in my group who didn’t share this outlook and was still working on his part of the project the night before, this in my opinion wasn’t a great experience as the rest of the group and I were worried that we wouldn’t have part of the assignment completed when it came to the deadline for the presentation, however in the end it worked very well as the last person had put a lot of effort in and also did very well in the final presentation which was really good to see. In retrospect we could have gone about the process different when it came to which parts of the work we did as we split the problems between the four of us which could have gone wrong if one person hadn’t have completed their work, we could have all done small bits of different problems in order to spread the work load and have all of the bases covered if something like that was to happen. We could also have done more of the work together as a group by meeting up and doing it as a four, this is because we would have been able to get everyone’s collective ideas towards the topics we were covering and would have had a wider overview of the topics, it would have also guaranteed us to have done the work as everyone would have been there to do it and we would all have contributed the same amount to each problem that we had to solve for HSBC in order to get a good mark. We could have also spent more time practicing the presentation itself as we only had one rough skim through it together rather than having a good few proper practice goes. If we had to do this presentation again, I would put that method of working for the presentation forward as it would be a much better way to make sure all the work gets done at a good standard for the deadline. We would have also had a better total understanding of the presentation as we would have all been working together permanently to achieve the same common goal which is something I have learnt to be very important during this process. However, I think that overall, we did well with the presentation and the content that we used was of a great standard in order to achieve a good grade and also to impress HSBC with our knowledge of their values and try as best as we could to help them find answers for the problems that they have within each of those sectors. Another presentation we did was in week three where we looked at professional ambition, we had to outline our career ambitions and then present the skills needed and then say whether we possessed these skills or not and if so whether we could improve them, for this we worked well as a team and put together a good presentation. Positive Experience A positive experience I had during this module would be when we learnt about the honey and Mumford learning styles. I had never really contemplates the thought that people had different learning styles, but during this seminar I found that my learning type according to Honey and Mumford would be a theorist this means that I like to understand the theory of things once I have found the answer and also like the use of concepts and facts to back up my learning, I also found myself to have a very high score for being a pragmatist which means that I learn best by seeing things being put into action in real life and work well from seeing demonstrations it also says that pragmatists are also well suited to problem-solving. After thinking about my results for a while I concluded that these two learning styles do suit me well and if I were to describe my learning style it would be a combination of the two as I feel that is how I would get the best out of my learning. I also had a reasonable score in the reflector category which I would also agree on that I would like time to think and investigate before I start, however that is also sometimes where I go wrong as I can rush into things without thinking and investigating and things go wrong for me. After doing this test I have realised the methods that help me to work effectively and will take that into account in the future to work more efficiently. We also looked at the Belbin team roles to which I founds that I was a plant and an implementer which means that I normally want to work by myself and often work in an unorthodox way or solve problems in a systematic fashion, being an implementer also means that I am good at getting things done for when they need to be done for. I think this sounds like me, but I could also see some of the other team roles in myself too which I didn’t get from the test. Throughout this module overall I feel I have learned many things about myself that I didn’t really think about before starting this module, it had also changed my approach to different scenarios in the future, I also feel that I have improved some of my team working skills and developed more skills and views on the professional world which will put me in good stead for the future. As I reflect on this module, I can also see areas which I could definitely improve myself in such as public speaking which has always been a fear of mine.
