1. Describe the rationale behind Tesla’s new master plan.
The rationale behind Tesla’s new master plan is to speed up the transition of
sustainable energy. The crucial part in this master plan is to produce affordable, high
volume products so that this transition can be “worldwide” and meaningful. There are
different steps and products existent in this master plan. Though all have the same goal,
promoting energy sustainability, increasing safety and autonomy.
How does this new strategy help Tesla fulfill its vision?
This strategy helps Tesla fulfilling its vision by providing a long term plan for
accelerating the world’s transition to the sustainable energy. All the projects in this
master plan -autonomus driving, electric vehicle, Tesla Semi Project, Tesla Network
Project- serves achieving the vision of Tesla, creating a more sustainable future.
2. Apply the three-step process for crafting a good strategy, to each element of the new
master plan.

Integrating energy generation and storage:
If we start with analyzing the environment, there was an increasing demand for
clean and sustainable energy. Yet, there wasn’t enough investments in this area. Their
formulation was to create solar-roof-with-battery products that empowers the
individuals as their own utility, then spread it throughout the World. Lastly, if we
look at the strategy implementation, bringing Tesla and SolarCity together and
making this Project even more impactful was the right thing to do to accelerate this
Project.

Expanding to cover the major forms of terrestrial transport:
With the models they’ve created so far, Tesla addressed to most of the
consumer market. But, they were well aware that what really matters was to create the
machine creating the machine. Also they were aware the need for other types of
electric vehicles: heavy-duty trucks and urban transport. After the analysis made,
Tesla formulated both the processes, created a roadmap. They also made some
additional improvements to the Project to increase the safety and convenience. Now,
the projects are in the early stages of devlopment and will be ready for unveiling
soon.

Autonomy:
Tesla was well aware that the software will take a long time to be refined
and validated. Still, according to their perspective, it didn’t make sense to wait
until some point in the future, since it is already safer than a person driving. Thus,
they launched “Autopilot” feature (always off by default). Yet, since they know
that the system will continu to improve itself with the new Technologies, it is
launched as a “Beta” version.

Sharing:
As they stated from the very beginning, affordability and convenience was
very crucial for Tesla’s vision. Thus, they analyzed how the self-driving system
could be even more beneficial, and developed a Network which enables
customers to summon their Tesla from anywhere. The customers would be also
able to add their car to this network, which enables them to make Money even at
work or vacation. It is expected to start this Project once the true self-driving is
approved by regulators.
3. On which steps of the new master plan has Tesla made the most progress?
Tesla has made significant progresses in the area of Energy Generaton and
Storage. They launched products such as Powerwall, Powerpack and Megapack.
Also, in the electric vehicle area, Tesla has been very productive, with new
models, offered to different segments. They continues to develop themselves for a
more sustainable transportation system throughout the World. On the other hand,
in the Autonomy and Sharing parts, they haven’t made significant progresses. In
the article, it was stated that the software and the regulations will take much
longer. Perhaps that is the reason the developments are way slower in these areas.
4. What recommendations would you offer Elon Musk?
Though I believe that Elon Musk has made a very crucial progress with
Tesla, and has a very good vision with the projects he has, I believe that he could
increase the visibility of these projects, also himself. I believe that Tesla is the
most important thing has been happening in the sustainability area fort he last
decade. Rather than dealing with magazine, Twitter, or any other projects that are
relatively less crucial, Elon Mush should give his attention to creating a better
identity for himself also for Tesla. Also, I’d suggest Elon Musk to collaborate
with the governments for the projects he has, especially fort he transportation
vehicles. I am aware that Elon Mush has been working on this as well, but only
collaborating with developed countries is not enough, it should be worldwide. In
fact, the countries which gives the most harm to the environment is the countries
that are developing or under-developed.
