CPRmor cardiopulmonary resuscitation
SCENARIO:
A man in his 30s was pulled out of the swimming pool by one of his family members after they
found him floating. Another family member hysterically cries, asking for help.
A. The scene is dry and free from possible harmful chemicals and debris that could harm
the first aider and the victim, the scene is safe.
B. There are also no other victims or injured people upon scanning the area.
C. Identify self. My name is Amber and I am a trained first aider.
D. Assess the patient.
a. Hey hey hey are you ok? = victim is unresponsive
b. Check for circulation, airway and breathing within 10 seconds. = victim has no
pulse and not breathing
E. Sir in Neon Hawaiian shirt, call 117
F. Start delivering the first high quality CPR by placing the heel of the palm at the center of
the chest or 2 fingers above the xiphoid process.
G. Chest compression rate should be 100 - 120 per min and the depth should be 2 inches.
We will be giving 30 chest compressions and 2 rescue breaths.
H. To provide the rescue breath, i will be doing the head tilt chin maneuver then pinching
the nose and delivering the air making sure there is chest rise
I. Continue delivering chest compressions for 3 more cycles and reassess responsiveness,
breathing and pulse
J. AED has arrived.
