Metal oxide semiconductor field effect transistor is a semiconductor device. Unipolar transistor. Widely used for switching purpose and amplifications of electronic signals in electronic device. Employed in both the analog digital circuits. Types of MOSFET Basically two types of MOSFET we used in operational purpose. Working principle of MOSFET. i. It is capable to control the voltage and current flow between the source and drain terminals. ii. MOS capacitor is the main part of MOSFET. iii. From p type to n type we can easily set applying positive or negative gate voltages. Why do we used MOSFET for switching and amplification? I. MOSFETs provide greater efficiency while operating at lower voltages. II. Absence of gate current results in impedance producing high switching III. Operate at lower power and draws current. Application of MOSFET: 1) MOSFET amplifiers are extensively used in radio frequency applications. 2) It acts as a passive element like resistor, capacitor and inductor. 3) DC motors can be regulated by power MOSFETs. 4) Logic gates and data storage. 5) Used in digital integrated circuit such as microprocessors and memory devices. 6) Sound reinforcement. 7) High switching speed of MOSFETs make it an ideal choice in designing chopper circuits. 8) Automobile sound system. Power MOSFET is used in automobile This device is voltage controlled and easy to drive. Unipolar device with a single carrier that contributes to the electrical conduction. Mainly used as a voltage device. CONCLUSION o MOSFET is voltage controlled solid state device. oHave high speed switching operation. oCreates very low power loss than other transistor.
