GE LWR Written Output 2 LLACUNA, KARL M. BSCE-2C “Reflection Paper” I finished my secondary education at Brooke’s Point National High School, wherein it complies with RA 145 also known as the Rizal Law. It provides me with enough information and knowledge about the writings and works of Rizal including his well-known novel Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. As far as I remember, these two books of Rizal that required us to handle are both original in copy and translated into Filipino. Also, my school library has a sufficient copy of these books for us students to borrow. Nonetheless, this Rizal Law indeed instills the essence of being patriotic in me and I’m pretty sure that also, for some students, including my classmates during my secondary education, has been ablaze and wakes their patriotism. During my secondary education, Rizal’s life has been circulating in various lessons in both my history (ARPA) and Filipino subjects. Hence, some information in his bibliography works, and writings are familiar when asked by someone, such as his birthplace, his complete name, birth date, etc. His quotes and famous lines are common use in essays when I was in high school, quotes like “Ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan” and “Ang hindi marunong lumingon sa pinangalingan ay hindi makakarating sa paroroonan”. During my 9th and 10th grades, El Filibusterismo and Noli Me Tangere were introduced respectively. I can say that these two novels of Rizal were truly remarkable and left a notable lesson in life. With this in mind, I can say that my school complies with and implemented the Rizal Law in our school successfully. It was not uncommon for students to have questions about the implementation of this law in the Philippine educational system, such as "Why do we need to study Rizal's life and works when in fact it is not required for my chosen career" and "Is this law only meant to add subjects to my course?”. These are just some questions I think most students, including me, usually ask. But, when I experienced this law in high school, all of these questions that were scattered in my thoughts have been given an answer. Thus, studying the life and works of Rizal allows me to become more patriotic and gives me the true meaning of patriotism. My experience with this Rizal Law in my secondary education was unforgettable. It is not just the lesson and realization that captures me the most but the bond with my classmate and my teacher during the discussion. The excitement every time we move to chapters in the story and discover a lot of things, we don’t know that resemble the past. The sadness when a character died and the thrill when a plot twist unfolds. However, this law was an amazing law for me as a student, and I will always be grateful for it.
