Assess physical fitness level

Health-Related Fitness Components
◉
Aerobic Capacity – the ability of the heart, lungs, & blood vessels to supply
oxygen and nutrients to the working muscles
◉
Muscular Strength – the ability of the muscle to generate the greatest force
◉
Muscular Endurance – ability to resist fatigue when performing multiple
repetitions
◉
Flexibility – ability to move the joint without pain over its entire range of
motion
◉
Body Composition – total make-up of the body using two components: lean
body mass and body fat

Types of Exercise
◉
Aerobic Exercise – large muscle groups performing rhythmic and
continuous movements for a prolonged period of time. Ex. Swimming,
biking, running, dancing
◉
Resistance Exercise – muscles contract against an external load (weights)
to improve muscular strength and endurance, and bone strength
◉
Stretching Exercise – increases the elasticity of muscles and tendons
surrounding the joint
