The Wind and the Moon
Q1. Why is the Wind angry with the Moon? What is he threatening to do?
Ans. The Wind was angry with the Moon because he thought that the Moon stared at
him all the time like a ghost in a chair and the Wind hated to be watched. He threatened to
blow the Moon out of the sky.
Q2. Even though the Wind tries to blow away the Moon, she keeps reappearing.
This is because
Ans.
she is indifferent to the Wind and appears and disappears as she pleases.
Q3. The Wind he took to his revels once more; What did the Wind go on to do to
express his glee? Did this feeling last long? Why or why not?
Ans. To express his glee, the Wind went on down in town like a merry-mad clown. He
leaped and hallooed with whistle and roar while making a loud, shrill noise. No, this feeling
did not last long as the moon reappeared in the sky and grew, till she filled the night and
shone after all the efforts taken by the Wind to blow her out of the sky.
Q4. We know that the Wind finds it difficult to blow out the Moon and suffers
physically, in doing so. Find the words or phrases that shows this.
Ans. We know that the Wind finds it difficult to blow out the Moon and suffers physically.
The lines, “But in vain, Was the pain Of his bursting brain” tells us so.
Q5. “What a marvel of power am I”. In this stanza, why does the wind think so
highly of himself? What did you think of the Wind when you read this stanza?
Ans. “What a marvel of power am I”. In this stanza, the wind thinks so highly of himself
because he thought that he was first able to blow the moon out of the sky and then was
also able to blow her back in the sky again. When I read this stanza, I thought the wind as
very arrogant and boastful with a lot of pride because it was the Wind’s imagination
about his power while the Moon was in the sky all motionless and still.
Q6. Why is to the Moon unaware of what the Wind is trying do? If you were the
Moon and you knew what the Wind was up to, how would u feel about his
behaviour? What would you do?
Ans. The Moon is unaware of what the Wind is trying do because she is somewhere high
up above in space, above the earth’s atmosphere where the Wind cannot even reach her.
If I were the Moon and I knew what the Wind was up to, I would feel pity for the Wind for
taking so much efforts in blowing me away but in reality, he cannot even reach me. But it
would not be any concern for me as it can’t be helped if the Wind is full on arrogance and
pride and wants to boast about his power by trying to blow me out of the sky. So, I would
just stand still where I was and watch the arrogant Wind putting all his efforts in vain for
something that can’t be achieved by him.
