REGION VIII (Eastern Visayas)
 one
of the two regions of the
Philippines having no land border
with another region, MIMAROPA
being the other.
 Eastern Visayas encompasses the
two large islands of Leyte and
Samar.
 This region is the eastern boundary
of the Philippines.

 The
San Juanico Bridge separates
the islands of Samar and Leyte.
 The
terrain of the two large islands
is entirely different. Leyte has a
high peaked mountain mass in the
interior while Samar has low
rugged hills interspersed with
valleys.


It is an arch-shaped truss bridge stretching from
Samar to Leyte crossing the San Juanico Strait.

It is where the famous bronze
statue of General Douglas

BINAGOL

Binagol is made of a root
crop named Talyan,
coconut milk and sugar. It
is then molded into a
coconut shell.

Binagol is quite sweet with
the distinct taste of the
root crop.


It is a soft and sticky, smooth and a bit oily rice
cake that is made of glutinous rice, known as
“malagkit na bigas” in the Philippines, being
cooked in coconut milk and cocoa.

ROSCAS

Originally from Barugo, Leyte, roscas is a butter
cookie but is harder to bite.

Roscas has a unique taste because of the anise that
is added to its flavor.

SUMAN or BUDBUD

delicacy that is made of
steamed glutinous rice with
salt, wrapped with the leaves
of buri palm, or other types of
leaves like banana, and then
cooked in coconut milk.

BUKAYO

considered as one of the
native delicacies in Leyte.

It is made of coconut, which
is abundant in the province,
and a mixture of brown sugar
with strips of young coconut
strip boiled in water.

PIÑA FESTIVAL

The Piña Festival is a
celebration for the bountiful
harvest of Pineapple in the
City of Ormoc.

It also honors its Patron
Saints Peter and Paul.

The actual date of the fiesta
is on the 29th of June.

PINTADOS FESTIVAL
It is a cultural religious
festival in Tacloban in view of
the body-painting
conventions of the old inked
"pintados" warriors.
 also arranged out of
appreciation for Sr. Santo
Niño.
 held every 29th of June, the
day of the Feast of the Senor
Santo Niño de Leyte.



The Sinugdan festival is a historical festival
commemorative of the 1st Mass in the country celebrated
in the island of Limasawa.


PADUL-ONG FESTIVAL

Padul-ong Festival is a religious festival in Borongan City
in the province of Eastern Samar, Philippines held every
September 8th.

A weeks-long festival, it is conducted in honor of Nuestra
Señora dela Natividad, the patroness of the city.
