Wellman 1 Alex Wellman Rothhasse WRIT 1110 December 7, 2021 Analysis Paper How would you describe the greatest on-going issues with this world? For this remix assignment, I chose to remix an old text I had submitted back in high school. This piece of text was more of an interview essay. I had to interview some people in my family and ask them what they think are the world's greatest problems. After Interviewing everyone I would compare their answers are go in detail about how age, lifestyle, social class may differentiate their answers from one another. This is one my most favorable written texts because I loved hearing peoples answers and how they were different from each other. It was interesting to me to write about this topic and I found it more enjoyable than writing other boring texts. In my new text I still interview my family but I dive into their answers much more, I then talk about their answers and solutions to help. The remixed new text I have written goes much more into depth on the world's problems and the answers from each one of my interviewees. I use my rhetoric tools as a writer to my advantage to get the reader's attention, focus, feelings, etc. “In short rhetoric can be understood as both a productive and inter-pretive enterprise.” (Selzer 280). There is more detail, analysis and looks more like short story than a bland essay. I hope to broaden my horizon of audience with my remixed text to people of all ages. The remixed text can be for anyone who is interested in the worlds wellbeing to someone wanting to read an interesting text. OLD TEXT [Last Name] 2 One of the most important parts of my old text was how I showed Ethos throughout the text. Especially since it is an Interview based text. My old text was based off primary sources of answers that I received from own family members. This was my own personal experience and because of this, the old text was trustworthy. A quote from my old text to back this up would be as following. “The first person I decided to interview about the world's problems were Emma Wellman. She is 19 years old and is a female. She was born in Lakewood, Ohio, USA.” (Wellman Old Text 1) This quote is an example of how I introduced a member in my family right before I talked about the questions, I asked her and her response. The quote shows me giving trustworthy information of who she is. In my old text there was also strong use of pathos. I used pathos through strong language and tried to get the audience to relate and really understand the problems that were said and described. The old text did an excellent job with this because it shows the reader problems that they may be experiencing which may cause emotion to the readers. A quick example that I could show is a sample of text from my old text that shows an issue being described that a lot of people may relate to. “She had 3 great problems to discuss with me for this interview, one of which was the problem with Covid-19. She thinks that the situation has gotten out of hand and...” (Wellman old text 1). The quote then continued to talk about experiences many people have had to face during the epidemic. This is a reason on as to how my old text showed Pathos. Finally, in my old text the last element that I will be talking about is Logos. I feel like my old text did a decent job with logos, I feel like there is still room for improvement but there were not enough argumentative or persuasive standpoints in the text. This is my weakest element compared to the remix version. My remix version will highlight this specific element making [Last Name] 3 points and arguments with a persuasive tone on what can be helped and changed about the current issues in the world. I use understandable language in the old text to make clear to the audience of what I am writing about. I would clearly state how I am interviewing a certain person in my family to make sure the audience knows what is going on. Right in the beginning of my old text I jump straight away into the interviews which could cause confusion since there is not a proper introduction included. This is how my old text utilizes logos and how the remixed text will use it in a more effective manner. NEW TEXT Take a moment and think about what are the biggest issue of the world. My remixed text goes into this with what you can do to help. My remixed text as a whole describes serious descriptions of what is faulty about the world and how society deals with it presently today. The general audience of this specific text are people that are interested in the topic and what they can do to help and better the world community. I want people to read this text and conceivably better their actions to overall improve life for everyone. The genre of the remixed text I have made could be described as persuasive, or also a short story. A great aspect of my remixed text is how I use the element of ethos. Just like my old text I base the main base of my text from questions that I used to interview my family with. Since the answers from my family are their opinion and the sources are primary to me, this makes me a trustworthy author. I do not need to add anymore, this text is already credible with how I interviewed my family members. An example of me using ethos in my remixed text would be as following. “The last person I decided to get interviewed was my grandfather, Daniel. A little about Dan is that he is 84 years old, he is also second generation from Germany.” (Wellman remixed text 2). I give a little bit of background information about him to have the audience [Last Name] 4 understand that the following info is credible and trustworthy. This is how my remixed text uses ethos in a satisfactory manner. Another great piece included in my remixed text was the way I used pathos. I did this by using a lot of detail and description while discussing the problems that were discussed by my family members. By using this strategy, it really can get the readers or audience to really understand and feel the situation. This would make the audience think what it would be like if they were in the opposite shoes or had to deal with the specific situation personally. Here is an example from the text that shows use of pathos for the readers to view and understand upon. “The first main problem that she would like to discuss with me was that there was an increase in kidnappings / human trafficking. She understands how much pain a mother would go through if they lost a child.” (Wellman remixed text 2) The word choice in this quote can have readers think hard about what it would be like if they were to experience and relate to the loss they would feel if they were in this situation. This is how pathos was used inside of my new text. Finally, the last main element that was used in my new text was logos. This was done by using a strong scheme of asking the reader or audience what they can do in order to help the world and to make it a better place. This is how the persuasive standpoint comes in to place, after reading that specific part of the text, which was towards more of the end, they understand the point that is trying to come across so they do not become confused. A quote that is similar to what I stated goes as: “inventio (the finding or creation of information for persuasive acts and the planning of strategies.” (Selzer 284). I also state at the beginning of each of my body paragraphs how I interviewed the specific person of family that the actual paragraph is about. Such as “The next person I decided to interview was my mother...” (Wellman remixed text 2). That is an example that shows the reader a clear representation of what is happening and what is to come for the following section. Logos is very important to the audience to stay tuned and to follow along. [Last Name] 5 As a takeaway from my remix Text and my old text, I want my audience to understand why I wrote about this specific topic. In my old text I really just jump straight into the topic and do not really connect to the audience, the audience may have trouble relating or understanding the point of my text compared to the remixed version. In the Remix version I go into more depth, detail, and analysis of the topic. With the remixed version being read, I want the audience to understand that the world has major problems going on in it and that there are ways to help. Exposure to these problems can help because people could be more away of the situation. At the end of the day the real and overall purpose of my finished remix text is to make the world a better place even if it is a small step. Works Cited Bazerman, Charles, and Paul A. Prior.
