What is it?
Bleeding in the brain that
can reduce oxygen delivery
to the brain, create pressure,
and kill brain cells.
Who’s at Risk?
55 years old or older
Hypertension
Most common in Men
African Americans and Asians
Previous history of stroke increases risk 23 times
Use of alcohol and street drugs
Liver disease
Use of blood thinners
Genetic factors
Primary brain causes: tumors, vascular anomalies, infection and
venous sinus thrombosis.
Signs & Symptoms
● Headache
● Nausea
● Vomiting
● Alterations in levels of consciousness
● Cognitive dysfunction
● Weakness in one part of the body
● Elevated blood pressure
Treatment
A craniotomy
Stereotactic clot aspiration
Steroids to reduce swelling
Anticoagulants to reduce clotting
Anti Seizure medications
Ways to prevent
not smoking
