Semi-Detailed Lesson Plan Earth Science 11
I.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students will be able to:
a. determine the different factors necessary to support life in a planet;
b. explain how ach characteristic affect life on Earth.
II.
SUBJECT MATTER
Topic: Characteristics of Earth Necessary to Support Life
Reference: Alternative Delivery Mode, Quarter 1, Module 1
Materials: Chalkboard, visual aids
III.
PROCEDURE
A. Preparation
 Prayer
 Greetings
 Checking of attendance
 Review of classroom rules
B. Motivation
 The e students are going to play “Celebrity Bluff”. They are given sentences
and answer “FACT”, if the statement is true and “BLUFF” if the statement is
false.
1. The universe as we currently know it comprises all space and time, and all
matter and energy in it. – FACT
2. The universe is at least 4.5-4.6 billion years old. – BLUFF
(ANSWER: It’s 13.8 billion of years old, while the solar system is at least
4.5-4.6 billion of years old.)
3. The solar system as part of the Milky Way is located at the outer limb of
the galaxy. – FACT
4. Living organisms can harness energy from the sun. – FACT
5. Water traps heat from the sun. – BLUFF
(ANSWER: Greenhouse gases/ heat from the sun-is important in different
biological processes.

The teacher shows a picture of the planet earth and let the students
answers the questions that follows then presents the topic.
What can you say on the given image?
How will you describe it?
What are the things you can find in then planet earth? Do you think they
are necessary?

C. Discussion
 The teacher let the discover the different characteristics of earth that enable
life to flourish by playing the “4 Pics 1 Word”. The student will guess the
specific word that fits the theme of the photos presented and discuss how
does the following characteristics affects the earth.
1.
2.
4.
3.
5.
D. Generalization
The teacher asks questions with what they have learned regarding with the
lesson discussed.
- What are the characteristics of earth necessary to support life?
- How important are these characteristics?
- What do you think would be your contribution to help protect and take care
of our planet earth?
E. Application
The students are divided into 5 groups. Each group will be given different
biological factors to draw and give the planet’s requirement for life to exist. Rubric
Is given for scoring the student’s work.

EVALUATION
Directions: Write T if the statement is correct but if it is false, change the underlined
word or group of words to make the whole statement true. Write your answer on your
answer sheet.
_________ 1. Low temperature slows down chemical reactions among living
organisms.
_________ 2. Atmosphere provides chemicals needed for life.
_________ 3. Gravity does not affect the Earth’s atmosphere.
_________ 4. Water traps heat from the sun.
_________ 5. Size and distance from the sun affect the planet’s ability to hold
atmosphere.
_________ 6. Absence of water interferes reactions necessary for life.
_________ 7. Earth cannot provide enough amount of sunlight as source of energy
of most organisms.
_________ 8. Insufficient or absence of nutrients can hinder different biological
processes.
_________ 9. Volcanism helps in nutrient recycling.
_________ 10. Atmosphere protects Earth from small to medium size meteorite
impacts.
