without him knowing. Truman is raised to believe he is living a normal life when it is all a lie. Truman is subconsciously
influenced and controlled to stay on the island. The Truman show only works when Truman believes his reality is real.
Weir uses the film to make the viewer question their own reality. If you can not tell that something is real or fake then
does it matter? Truman is a dreamer and a explorer it is displayed in the opening scenes when he is looking in the
mirror, everyone can relate but can not prove that their life is true or not. Everything is manufactured. Sylvia the only
one that cares is taken away. There are so many little details discouraging him from traveling. Truman ends without
giving Christof the end off that he wanted. Truman will not be able to trust anything ever again. Truman hitting the
edge is like reality hitting him in the face. Truman is pushed up against a sign for free range chicken, this is a
metaphor for Trumans life. The audience is more imprisoned by the tv than Truman. “my life is my life is the Truman
show.” Weir shows what would be on the Truman show by putting a vignette on the screen which makes it look like

surroundings. People imprison themselves watching the Truman show so that the show does not stop, and Truman
stays in the dome. CAMERA SHOTS AND ANGLES, MUSIC DIGETIC NON DIGETIC. Weir uses anticlimax. Weir
also shows that we the viewer are also trapped and the victim. Sirius 19 falls which is a metaphor for the start of a new
life and the end of something else. Truman sometimes acts like a actor because that is who he is raised by, he tries to
imitate them so he can seem like a actor at the start of the film. In the opening the credits for the tv show and
interviews with the actors for the tv show are played. The movie uses lighting and colour to take away the tragic

makes some of the movie hard to watch because it makes the viewer think what if that’s happening to me. Truman did
not want to know the truth he needed to. Wile the movie ends thinking positive Truman will never be able to trust
anything ever again, and he will be unable to return to reality because he is the most famous person on the earth.

cracks and almost breaks. Christof is faced with the dilemma he continues transmission and risks Truman finding the
truth or he gets rid of Truman. Trumans drive to understand true reality is enough to cause his fake reality to collapse.
