Signature Assignment-Coaching Plan
As a newly hired academic coach, I will need to work with a newly hired experienced
teacher who needs support to integrate technology into her classroom. Technology, for some,
comes with great ease, while for others, it terrifies them greatly. This coaching plan comprises
five key components: setting goals, addressing teacher resistance, implementing strategies,
providing valuable feedback, and a summary. Each section will be thoroughly explained so
academic coaches can easily apply the plan to similar school situations.
Part 5: Summary
Coaching is a significant benefit to the school system. It is a great tool to help teachers become
better instructors, students achieve higher, and everyone grows. A coach’s primary goal is to
help teachers help their students. A coach will meet with teachers before and after an
observation. The teacher will work with the coach to align their areas of concern with a goal and,
after a while, be able to reflect on and alter any instruction that needs to be changed. The
coaching cycle is split up into different tasks.
Identify three SMART (specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, time-bound) goals to support
the teacher.
By the end of the school year, the classroom teacher will have increased their use of technology
by 10% as measured by technology surveys. The classroom teacher will attend professional
development on using and integrating relevant technology in the classroom before the end of the
school year. By the end of the first quarter, the teacher will learn how to use Google Classroom
and then introduce it to students.
Identify what the coach must do to support the teacher in achieving the stated goals.
The coach will use the technology surveys to support the teacher in integrating technology.
The coach will help locate a PD for the teacher within the district if possible.
The coach will get the assistance of the technology department if the coach is new to Google
Classroom.
Identity what the teacher must do to ensure they achieve the stated goals.
The teacher will explain her experience with technology and the areas that she is concerned
about.
The teacher needs to be willing to attend the PD to grow her knowledge of using technology in
the classroom.
The teacher will set up an assignment in Google Classroom and assign it to her students.
identify two to three specific areas in which the coach may face resistance from the teacher.
The teacher is experienced, has used lessons and strategies that have worked for her without fail,
and finds the change unnecessary. (According to Dowd, H. 2020) The teacher lacks the
confidence to understand and incorporate technology in the classroom.
Identify what the coach will do to help overcome teacher resistance.
Get to know the teacher and find out what she knows about technology and what experience she
may have with it.
The coach can model the changes. Demonstrate how to incorporate technology and how it
enhances student learning. (Zimmerman, 2018)
The coach will assist in building trust with the teacher to help her overcome her lack of
confidence in using technology in the classroom.
The coach plans to encourage the teacher to share her concerns and highlight the significance of
incorporating technology.
Identify what the teacher must do to help him/herself overcome possible resistance.
The teacher will undergo professional development training to enhance her confidence in
utilizing technology.
It is crucial for teachers to invest effort in enhancing their teaching methods to effectively impart
real-world knowledge to their students and promote their overall learning experience.
Phase of Coaching Cycle
Objective 1
Objective 2
Pre-Observation
The teacher will plan to integrate
technology in order to enrich the
student’s educational
experience.
The teacher will plan to
integrate technology-based
independent learning by
utilizing various learning
applications and websites.
Observation
The teacher will demonstrate the
technology during a lesson to the
students that supports the
learning goal.
Students will use technology to
engage with educational
websites and tools to reinforce
learning objectives.
Post-Observation
The teacher to reflect on the
integrated lesson.
The teacher will build the next
lesson and teach by herself
using the same technology.
Identify what the coach will do to support the teacher during each phase of the coaching cycle.
Pre-Observation
The coach will support the teacher by showing the teacher how to use the
technology in the classroom and to navigate through the websites and applications.
Observation
The coach will take detailed notes of the lesson to share with the teacher during
the post-observation of her observations.
Post-Observation
The coach will provide feedback and suggestions for the next lesson.
Identify what the teacher must do to gain the most from each phase of the coaching cycle.
Pre-Observation
During the pre-observation meeting, the teacher will collaborate with the coach to
devise a plan that maximizes the learning experience. The teacher will come
prepared with ideas to discuss.
Observation
The teacher will demonstrate the technology she acquired through the PD to the
students.
Post-Observation
The teacher will use reflection about the lesson and be open to constructive
criticism.
Identify two strategies the coach will implement to provide effective feedback to the teacher after
implementation.
Strategy 1
Give specific feedback when pointing out the positives and areas of improvement.
Strategy 2
Focus on student achievement and evidence rather than instructional strategies
Identify two strategies the teacher will implement to prepare to receive feedback from the instructional
coach after implementation.
Strategy 1
be prepared for constructive feedback by reflecting on the lesson.
Strategy 2
focus on the lesson and record what she did right, what was okay, and areas of concern
Write a 700- to 1,050-word summary that incorporates theories of curriculum and instruction to support
your coaching plan, as described above. Include a minimum of three academic references to support your
findings, and cite them according to APA guidelines.
