Virtual Orientation: - Time: 9:50am- 12pm - You will message your small groups before they enter so they are mentally prepared to turn their cameras on, otherwise you will be talking to a black screen Sample message for students: Good morning everyone, my name is ( insert name), I will be your orientation leader for today! Be prepared to have your cameras on and participate in today’s small group. I will be able to answer majority of your registration questions, such as how to use schedule planner, what sort of classes I should sign up for, etc. I look forward to seeing all of your smiling faces. Small group break down: - Hi everyone my name is (insert here), pronouns( if they are comfortable), major, hometown, Random fun fact - Ask if they have any questions about how to register for classes They will most likely say they don't so they can get out of there, give them a few tips on how to use schedule planner - Show them the powerpoint and go through all of the slides - Stupan presentation - Give them important resources like the student success center, the gender center, etc. - They will not get the one on one advisor experience so you will be their best bet on helping them with their schedule Online icebreakers: - Pictionary - The OL can make a private room of skribbl.io/ and invite their students to play along! Every round, someone gets a prompt to draw something, and everyone else tries to guess what it is. You get more points for guessing correctly quickly. The person with the most points at the end wins! Emphasize to keep things PG-13 - no cruel or graphic drawings. - INCOHEARANT - Below is a Google Slides with random words that together make a short phrase. Have your students guess what the phrase is as you repeat the words. Google Slides: HERE - Zombie Apocalypse - It’s recommended to NOT tell the students the name of the game until after if you do at all, because it makes it funnier. At the start, ask your students to choose a random quirky object in the room and give them one or two minutes to bring an object back. Call on people (so you can make sure everyone presents) and have them say what their object is. After everyone goes, tell everyone to choose from all the objects presented on what their go to item would be in the apocalypse. Make sure you emphasize that you can choose someone else’s object if the student likes someone else’s more than their own. Who is the most prepared for the zombie apocalypse? - Gif Game This icebreaker is great for the beginning of the Small Group to make sure that the students know how to use the chat box. The OL will ask a question like “What is your favorite movie?” and have their students respond via gifs. Afterwards, allow the students to explain what they put down! Popcorn to the rest of the room for as long as need be. Note: sometimes students will have trouble with GIFs or won’t be able to find a good one. Let them just type it in the chat or say aloud what their answer is if that’s the case. - - Two Truths and a Lie - - Zoomed In Pictures Game - - A simple icebreaker, but a useful one nonetheless! Say 2 truths and 1 lie about yourself, the other members of the call have to guess which one is the lie. Popcorn to others in the room! Below is a Google Slides that is a series of zoomed-in pictures. Have your students guess what the picture is of! Google Slides: HERE “Which UTD Mascot Are You?” Buzzfeed Quiz - Give your students take this short Buzzfeed quiz and have them share what their results are!
