NSTP – CWTS Task 1 1. What do you observe in the lesson Good Citizenship Values? Why do you say so? My answer: In this lesson, I have observed that the Filipinos have a lot of traits distinct from other cultures. Underneath the four Filipino core values are the ‘clusters’ of other Filipino traits. Apart from it, we also have a Filipino Values System wherein certain traits that reflect the Filipinos’ characteristics are defined. Our culture is so diverse and a diverse culture means that we also have a lot of diverse and unique traits as Filipinos such us Utang na loob, Mañana Habit, and others. 2. In your own words, define Good Citizenship Values. My answer: Good Citizenship Values are the values we Filipinos should possess as a member of our community in order to follow his duties and obligations to the society. We must uphold these values and live according to it. 3. How do you show your faith in the Almighty God? According to the discussion of Maka-Diyos in this module, what is the first step that you should do to show faith in the Almighty God? My answer: According to this lesson, the first step that I should do in order to show my faith in the Almighty God is to obey Him and live according to His teachings. Every other night before bedtime, I try to remind myself of God’s words by reading the Bible. I stay faithful to Him by following his virtues and doing good things to people. I pray to Him every night to thank Him for His blessings and ask for His guidance. He’s my source of hope and all of the things that I have and am experiencing right now are for and because of Him. I strongly believe that everything in my life is all according to His plan. 4. Prophet Jeremiah said ‘This is what the Almighty says: “when seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill my gracious promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Almighty God, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will come upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.”’ Using the prophecy of the Prophet Jeremiah, how do you find your present and future with the Almighty God? My answer: In the previous question, I have stated that my life is all according to God’s plan. All the things that’s happening to me in the present is in that plan, and I should not be afraid or lose hope because all He wants for us is to prosper, and give hope to the future. In the midst of obstacles, it is almost guaranteed that we can overcome it by asking for His guidance through a prayer. If it’s for us, then we shall receive it. At the same time, we must not be terrified of our future because God has a plan for us. I know to my heart that I will not run out of hope and I would be able to achieve what I deserve in life because of Him. “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”- Philippians 4:13. 5. How can you show your respect for life? My answer: Respect is one of our basic moral values. I can show my respect for life by practicing consideration, empathy, consciousness, and value among myself and others. I would follow the principle that life is a lot like an echo; you will receive what you gave it. So, if I want to be respected by others, then I shall give it to them first. I will ensure that all the things that I’m doing will not harm anybody, because I, myself, also wouldn’t want to be harmed by anyone. 6. Have you ever been in love? Do you feel you are loved? My answer: Yes, I did. Before I fell in love romantically, I fell in love with myself and my family first. I made sure that I and my family receive all the love that we need by taking care of them and our emotional needs. Then eventually, I found myself having a deeper connection with someone. It feels surreal. Sometimes it would feel like you want to give that person all the things you can, or to spend time with him 24/7. I never felt alone because this person is always by my side, helping me to get through episodes of sadness in my life. Most importantly, the quality of my life has improved indirectly because of him. I wasn’t expressive of my feelings at first but because of our connection, I became more open to him and my family as well. Do I feel loved? Definitely. I feel more loved not just by him but by the people around me as well, especially by my family. 7. What is your standard of love? My answer: The answer to this question can be answered by one of my favorite verses in the bible: 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” This verse summarizes it all. It doesn’t only apply to romantic love but also to the general love for all people. 8. The Golden Rule says [Do unto others what you want others do unto you.] What do you think is the standard of love if we consider this rule? My answer: If you want to receive love in your life, then you must give it first. We must not expect to be loved if we won’t love others in the way we would want them to love us. 9. What is the importance of the environment in the development of the society? Why do you say so? My answer: Our environment is important in the development of society simply because all of our natural resources crucial for our everyday needs are from nature. It matters because this planet is the only home that provides humans air, water, food, and other needs. Our environment is not only essential to our environment but also to the most important thing for humanity; our survival. 10. In your own ways, how can you contribute in the protection of the environment from its threats? My answer: It is our responsibility to take care of our home planet because it’s essential for our survival. We must conserve it in order for the future generations to come. But because of people’s negligence, our environment is being destroyed continuously. The things that we can do to minimize the destruction of our environment by reducing pollutions in land, air, and water are the following: Using renewable energy sources like solar energy; implementing solid waste management in our homes; growing my own food; not wasting water; planting more trees; joining organizations; or educating young people about the importance of our environment. I would personally follow these things to my heart because I wouldn’t want to be one of those people who are ignorant when it comes to the well-being of our planet. Task 2 Instructions: 1. Cite personal incidents in your life that you feel you have become: a. Maka-Diyos • Whenever I pray for God’s guidance, attend a mass, or teach children about his words. b. Makatao • When I help people without expecting anything in return, or care for them when they need someone. c. Makakalikasan • The times when I participate in tree-planting activities or join organizations that aim to conserve nature. d. Makabansa/Makabayan • Whenever I sing the national anthem, read about the history of the Philippines and its heroes, or when I always abide the laws. 2. Explain the details. What have you learned and realized out from that experience? My Answer: It feels good to do things that are related to the four core values. There is something inside of me that makes me proud whenever I did something that made me feel like a Makadiyos, Makatao, Makakalikasan, or Makabayan. I realized that when we align all of our actions according to these core values, then we can improve our quality of life in a way that would also benefit our country. We must start the change within ourselves and it’s time to live with a strong commitment to these values for the betterment of ourselves and others. Task 3 Instructions: 1. Identify at least five (5) strengths of Filipino character that you think you possess. Why do you say so? • Flexibility and Adaptability - I am able to adapt on different situations in my life. I always try to be productive and achieve any task that’s given to me. • Pakikipagkapwa-tao - Pakikipagkapwa-tao isn’t just about making friends. Making a positive connection with people is a trait that I believe I possess. • Joy and Humor - I don’t try to be serious all the time. Instead, I joke around to let people feel glad about something. Sometimes, we need humor to lessen our stress but don’t forget to know your limits. • • Family-Oriented - I put a lot of importance to my family and thinks about their well-being first before anything else. I love my family and all of the things I’m doing right now is for and because of them. Utang na Loob - One of my traits as a Filipino is to magtanaw ng utang na loob or to owe a debt of gratitude. Whenever someone did something for me, I always make sure to pay it back in different ways because I owe it to them. 2. Identify at least five (5) weaknesses of Filipino character that you think you possess. What are the steps do you take to change these weaknesses into strength? • Colonial Mentality - In order to change the colonial mentality, we must treat ourselves equal to westerners. We must not look down on our race or nationality, and it’s time that we shouldn’t align our standards to their standards because we’re different. • Lack of Self-Analysis and Self-Reflection - Sometimes, we don’t get aware of ourselves and what we really feel or want to do. As a result, we feel lost. In order to change this, we must always spare a moment to focus on our minds on ourselves. Analyze and reflect on what we feel or what thing should we get done for our selfimprovement. • Lack of Discipline - There are times when we fail to follow and discipline ourselves. This results to us delaying the things we are responsible to do. To change this, we must make ourselves clear of our objectives, and stick to our goals. • Bahala Na - Bahala na is a trait that often leads us to undesirable outcomes. Instead of not being sure and just go with the flow, we should be more specific with our plans. Planning is a crucial part in achieving our goals. • Amor Propio - Sometimes, we can’t let the wall of our pride be destroyed. However, it causes us to have a negative relationship with other people. We should learn not to defend our ego too much and swallow our pride if needed. Task 4 Instructions: 1. Choose one (1) from the four clusters of Filipino values. 2. Create a poster of any medium out from your own perspective and imagination. 3. Do it in a long bondpaper (8.5” x 13”).
