Job Purpose: To provide an economic service for the distribution of potable water and maintenance of the water infrastructure (reservoirs and distribution system) and maintain an acceptable level of non-revenue water within the EThekwini Municipality. Key Responsibility Areas: •Provides overall management and direction to the Water Operations department. •Maintains clear communication channels and ensures the effective and efficient running of the department. •Keeps abreast of technological development and ensures best possible prices are obtained for the department. •Facilitate growth and development. •Supervision and control of subordinate staff. •Makes suggestions to the Head (Water and Sanitation) regarding appropriate amendments to and/or scrapping of bylaws. •Assist the Head (Water and Sanitation) in formulating strategic direction for the Unit. Develops the department's strategic plan. •Formulates capital and operating budgets. •Implements the department's plans. •Monitors and reviews performance within the department. Essential Requirements: •Relevant B.Tech plus registration as a Professional Technologist (Pr. Technologist) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). •Valid motor vehicle drivers license (Code B). •7 years experience at a management level of which at least 2 years must be at a senior management level. Preferred Requirements: •Relevant post graduate qualifications in Management. Special Conditions: Will be required to travel internationally and present technical papers as required.
