Operating Instructions
This medical device is only to be operated by qualified personnel. Study this
manual and be familiar with all functions before operating.
As with all other electrosurgical units, this generator produces
high-frequency, high-density electrical signals. Always practice with care.
Consult our authorized representative or our head office if technical
assistance is required.
a)
Precautions

Patient plate must be fully attached to the patient’s skin before generating
any mono-polar outputs from the ESU. False and/or improper connections
may result in skin-burn injuries. Always check for proper attachments and
connections if the patient is re-positioned during a surgery.

To minimize the possibility of HF burns during a surgery, the patient must
not contact any metal objects.

Avoid resting cables (such as cable for surgical pencil, patient plate, or
cables for bipolar forceps) on the patient to minimize the possibility of HF
burns to the patient.

As a general safety guideline, always start with a low output power setting.
Gradually increase the output power if necessary until the desired clinical
effect is achieved.

All reusable accessories must be cleaned, disinfected, and sterilized before
each usage. Refer to Section 2.1 for more details.

Do not reuse or re-sterile any disposable accessories. Reusing disposable
products may cause injuries and/or infections to the patient. Refer to Section
2.2 for more details.

MN-S300-EN-A02
b)
Connecting a Patient Plate

Contact Impedance Monitor
When a dual-foil patient plate is used, the contact impedance monitor can
measure the contact quality (contact area) of the patient plate, and displays
the contact impedance in a three-digit format on the faceplate as shown in
Figure 1.7. A low impedance value indicates large contact surface. On the
other hand, a high impedance value suggests poor contact area, and is
hazardous to the patient. The typical range of contact impedance is between
40Ω and 110Ω.
The monitor also detects for false/improper connection of the patient-plate
cable regardless of the type of patient plate used.
When an unsafe status is detected (insufficient patient-plate contact quality
and/or improper cable connection), the generator immediately discontinues
its outputs, sounds an audible alarm, and flashes the “PLATE FAULT”
indicator. These warnings remain until all errors are corrected.

Standard coagulation
Standard coagulation uses high-density currents to coagulate tissues
quickly and efficiently. The Standard mode is usually used for smallto medium-hemorrhagic areas. Standard coagulation is sometimes
called desiccation or forced coagulation.
–
Spray coagulation
Spray coagulation uses very high voltages to generate “arching
currents”. The current travels through air, and is “sprayed” onto the
tissue, resulting in a large coagulation area. Therefore, the Spray mode
is generally used for large-hemorrhagic surfaces. Spray coagulation is
also known as fulguration.
