Should ROTC be Mandatory implemented
in Senior high school students
Back then, ROTC was mandatory implemented in High School. But when the
news about the death of a cadet officer spread, mandatory training of ROTC remove in
High School and it still implemented in college. This year, the house of representatives
approved on 2nd reading the bill that would make the Reserve Officers Training Corps
(ROTC) program mandatory for grades 11 and 12. Legislators approved House Bill (HB)
8961 on Wednesday, February 6, through viva voce voting or a vote of ayes and nays
( rappler.com). The bill needs only one more round of votes, the 3rd and final reading,
before hurdling the house. With the 17th Congress expected to adjourn by Friday,
February 8, HB 8961 would likely be passed in May, when session reopens. The
Senate’s version of the bill is still being deliberated at the committee level (Cepeda,
2019). HB 8961 says the conduct of military training under ROTC “shall apply to all
students in Grades 11 and 12 in all Senior High School in public and private educational
institutions.” This means the military training would be required for both male and
female students. The goal behind the proposed two-year mandatory ROTC is
“producing well-trained and prepared reservists for military and civic service.” Also this
program can help a lot on us. As a student, ROTC should mandatorily implemented in
Senior High School Students and to boost their love for the country.
Moreover, there is some articles that is against in implementing ROTC in
Senior High School Students. One of this article says “ROTC will expose students to
corruption (Cepeda, 2019).” When there still ROTC in High School a lot of students pay
their Teacher in this subject just to past. But now I don’t think students will do it again. If
their Teacher was good enough and know what’s right and wrong they won’t do it. Also,
ROTC won’t expose the students in corruption. It defend on the students and teacher.
Furthermore, some articles says, a lot of students will suffered because of ROTC. But
for me they won’t suffered if they follow their Cadet Officer Incharge on them. Students
will suffered in ROTC if they don’t discipline their selves. Lastly, one article says that the
rights of many student will be affected if that program be implemented. The rights of
student will not be affected. Because ROTC officers know the Human Rights.
Specifically, it aimed to instill patriotism. According to Cadet Col. Gea Jayson.
Corps commander of UP Diliman, has been witness to the rigors of ROTC training after
choosing to complete its 3 year program. This program will help the students be patriot
in our country. In another article says, the AFP believes it is time to bring back
mandatory ROTC in Schools to ensure that the youth are shaped with a deep sense of
patriotism. Therefore , if we agreed on implementing ROTC it will help us to become
patriot on our own country.
Moreover, it aimed to discipline the students. Now a days a lot of students
done stupid things in school. Implementing ROTC in Senior high School students will
be helpful to discipline the students. According to Quismorio, students need ROTC for
discipline. Its true that students like us need it to discipline ourselves. Even President
Rodrigo Duterte again voiced his determination to make the Reserved Officers Training
Corps program mandatory for students. Therefore, ROTC is really need in our country
to get us be prepared if there is an unexpected war.
In addition, it aimed to boost their love for the country. As it last long, many
students will understand why they should fight for our country. According to the law, it
will help the students to discipline and understand why ROTC is important. It has been
almost two decades since the government made optional the Reserved Officers
Training Corps for college students. And this only explains why most youths have only
learned of it from social media or even from hearsays. It is perhaps the reason why
some of them do not get full comprehension of why it needs a comeback. If it comeback
again the youths might understand why ROTC need in our country.
Overall, The ROTC was new and not like before that use violence in order to
discipline the youth ROTC was new and much better that before. ROTC is important
now because the youth doesn’t have discipline. ROTC is the key for a much better
generation and prepared reserve officers.
