LIFE: Reflecting on 25 Years of LIFE
L
Fall 2018
Catalog will be
Mailed August 1st!

IFE has just wrapped up its 25th year, a year of
great classes and impressive celebratory programs, approximately 140 outstanding classes and
day-trips, and gratifying growth, all led by an energetic RCTC Program Director and a strong volunteer
working board. My first LIFE class was 14 years ago,
and after 9 years on the board I have seen the RCTC
LIFE program progress to being one of Minnesota’s
very, very best lifelong learning programs. During
this time I think I have joined the WE Generation
(Wisdom & Experience), and my LIFE experiences
have given me some perspectives that I would like
to share:

years to pay proper attention to many world and
community issues, but LIFE has helped me become a
more informed, better citizen. I think I live in a bigger world now.
echnology is worshipped in our society, but
LIFE’s humanities-based content in conjunction
with technology `provides a more balanced understanding of today’s complex issues.
e live in a rushed, soundbite society which
invites oversimplification and distortions.
But LIFE’s well-presented digestible bites of information provide a fuller understanding of today’s
issues.
ne’s direction in retirement can just take a
spark in your mind’s eye, just a connection to
an interest in your past, or a glimpse of something
new, or a quiet talent. LIFE worked this way for
me—I never knew I had so many interests until I got
a LIFE!
happen to be more of a “project person” than a
“people person”, but I’ve really made quite a
number of friends through LIFE over the years-socialization really is vital as we age. LIFE is truly a
“Health Club for Your Mind”, but also for one’s social soul.

am now going to take a year or two off from
