J U L Y 2 0 1 8 LIFE: Reflecting on 25 Years of LIFE L Fall 2018 Catalog will be Mailed August 1st! 25 IFE has just wrapped up its 25th year, a year of great classes and impressive celebratory programs, approximately 140 outstanding classes and day-trips, and gratifying growth, all led by an energetic RCTC Program Director and a strong volunteer working board. My first LIFE class was 14 years ago, and after 9 years on the board I have seen the RCTC LIFE program progress to being one of Minnesota’s very, very best lifelong learning programs. During this time I think I have joined the WE Generation (Wisdom & Experience), and my LIFE experiences have given me some perspectives that I would like to share: ike many, I was too busy during my working years to pay proper attention to many world and community issues, but LIFE has helped me become a more informed, better citizen. I think I live in a bigger world now. echnology is worshipped in our society, but LIFE’s humanities-based content in conjunction with technology `provides a more balanced understanding of today’s complex issues. e live in a rushed, soundbite society which invites oversimplification and distortions. But LIFE’s well-presented digestible bites of information provide a fuller understanding of today’s issues. ne’s direction in retirement can just take a spark in your mind’s eye, just a connection to an interest in your past, or a glimpse of something new, or a quiet talent. LIFE worked this way for me—I never knew I had so many interests until I got a LIFE! happen to be more of a “project person” than a “people person”, but I’ve really made quite a number of friends through LIFE over the years-socialization really is vital as we age. LIFE is truly a “Health Club for Your Mind”, but also for one’s social soul.
