CHRIST THE TRUE FOUNDATION CHRISTIAN MINISTRY House Church Lesson JUNE WEEK 2 The theme for the Month: LIVING LIKE JESUS CHRIST Week Topic: PREDESTINED TO BE LIKE CHRIST SCRIPTURES: Rom 8:29-30 ESV (29) For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. (30) And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified. INTRODUCTION: WHAT IS PREDESTINATION? • • Defining predestination will be the first step. The word "destination" refers to the place that we are ultimately seeking to reach and includes the prefix "pre," which means "before." Destiny is another term that fits this situation. The words translated as “predestined” in the Scriptures referenced above are from the Greek word PROORIZO, which carries the meaning of “determining beforehand,” “ordaining,” and “deciding ahead of time.” So, predestination is God determining certain things to occur ahead of time. UNDERSTANDING THE TOPIC: WHAT DID GOD DETERMINE AHEAD OF TIME? 1, Destiny to Be Created in God’s Image and Likeness Col 1:15-16 ESV (15) He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. CHRIST THE TRUE FOUNDATION CHRISTIAN MINISTRY (16) For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. Rom 8:29 ESV (29) For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. 1Co 15:49 NET (49) And just as we have borne the image of the man of dust, let us also bear the image of the man of heaven. • THE IMAGE OF GOD IS DESTROYED BY THE DEVIL USING SIN, BUT IT IS RESTORED BY GOD THROUGH JESUS CHRIST. 2. Destiny To Be God’s Family and Eph 1:4-5 ERV (4) In Christ, he chose us before the world was made. He chose us in love to be his holy people—people who could stand before him without any fault. (5) And before the world was made, God decided to make us his own children through Jesus Christ. This was what God wanted, and it pleased him to do it. Rom 8:16-17 ESV (16) The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (17) and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him. 3. Destiny To Rule and advance God’s Kingdom in His Created Earth. Rev 1:5-6 AFV (5) And from Jesus Christ, the faithful Witness, the Firstborn from the dead, and the Ruler of the kings of the earth. To Him Who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood, (6) And has made us kings and priests to God and His Father; to Him be the glory and the sovereignty into the ages of eternity. Amen. Mat 24:14 ESV (14) And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. CHRIST THE TRUE FOUNDATION CHRISTIAN MINISTRY CONCLUSION: • • Destiny simply refers to God's long-term plans and purposes for the children he creates. God had a reason for making every one of his children, and he has given us tasks to complete while we are here on Earth.
