Membrane Cell Electrolyzer
For Electrolytic Production of Cl 2 & NaOH
Technical Bid Jan, 2019
1. Introduction:
Tiaano, I ndia has been established since 1992 w ith w ell-equipped latest in-plant facilities &
qualified engineers…
To offer… Quality, Economy & On-time deliv ery of  Electro-chemical equipments. 
Engineering equipments.  Turnkey Projects, under single platform to Marine, Chemical,
Pow er, Water, Steel, Automobile, Electronics, Metal finishing & Aerospace I ndustries.
By using…
Precious metal oxides of I ridium, Ruthenium, Platinum, Palladium and exotic
Metals like Titanium, Tantalum, Niobium, Zirconium, Nickel and their alloys.
To save... Pow er, resist corrosion, reduce maintenance cost & av oid product contamination.
Tiaano, offers platinum group precious metal oxide coatings w ith long life-times and low
operating potentials for service in Chlor-alkali cells. Tiaano’s coating systems are based on a
range of Nano-structured multi-layers of metal oxides; these include Ruthenium, I ridium,
Platinum, Palladium and Titanium - offer increased performance over conventional materials
by maximizing catalytic phases and surface area interactions.
By adding doping agents to the catalysts, w e are able to make them more selectiv e and
further improv e performance. The dev eloped coating technology allows for v ery thin layers
to be deposited increasing cost effectiv eness. The MMO Coated substrate w ill undergo
multiple thermal treatments at elev ated temperatures. This process w ill achiev e v ery good
bonding properties betw een the mixed metal oxide coating and the substrate.
Please v isit our site link http://w w w .chloralkalianode.com for more details about our
engineering and electrochemical equipments for Chlor-Alkali industries.

 I mproved product quality & Exhibit long life.
 Operate at low v oltage.
 Minimize energy consuming side reactions.
 I mprove tolerance of operational upsets.
f. Features of Cathode Coating:
 Tiaano prov ides cathode coating for chlorine membrane cells. This platinum
based electro catalyst deliv ers the low est hydrogen ov er-potential for
maximum electrical sav ings.
 I t is expected to giv e v oltage sav ings of 280 mV v s. bare nickel cathodes. This
translates to pow er consumption sav ings of 200 DC kW Hr. / MT of chlorine. As
current density increases, sav ings increase.
 Tiaano’s Cathode Coating also prov ides excellent wear resistance and long life
through a permanent coating w hich causes no caustic contamination as
compared to competitiv e coatings.
 I ts performance is limited only by the impurities in the caustic circulation system.
Tiaano’s coatings are more resistant than other cathode coatings to iron
fouling.
 Tiaano’s Cathode Coating can be applied ov er a v ariety of substrates
including mesh, louv ers, sheet, punched plate and screen and in all chlorine
membrane technologies.

6. Zero Gap Technology
i. Purpose
:
: Reducing the gap betw een anode and cathode. I n zero gap
technology, both anode and cathode surfaces are in contact w ith the
membrane, i.e. electrode gap equals to membrane thickness. Achiev ing
uniform current distribution the original anode and cathode mesh are not fully
flat; this is creating some non-uniformity in the current distribution. The elastic
element can adjust its thickness follow ing meshes profile, so the gap betw een
anode and cathode is kept uniform.
ii. Concept
: Zero Gap Technology totally remov es the ohmic drop related to
ionic mov ement through the Catholyte gap, by installation of a package of…

Cathode screen w hich is used as current collector.

A fine cathode screen shifts up to gently touch the membrane.

I n betw een them, durable elastic element is inserted, to transport
electrons by contact from the current collector to the fine cathode
screen, and capable of compensating for mechanical tolerances w ith
no harm for the membrane.
iii. Objectiv e:
o
Elastic element fills the gap betw een cathode & membrane.
o
Reduction in cell v oltage & Low hydrogen ev olution v oltage cathode.
o
Suitable for electricity conduct from current distributor to activ ated
cathode.
o
No high pressure on membrane.
o
Elasticity can long last & Durable performances in the life.
iv . Components:

Nickel Mattress: assuring a perfect “zero-gap” condition betw een cathode
mesh and membrane.

Activ ated Nickel Flynet: fine w ov en mesh, activ ated w ith a MMO coating
specific for “zero-gap” applications, positioned on top of the Nickel Mattress.

10. Quality Control
:
The following tests will be conducted by our Internal QA Department
and necessary certificates will be produced.
o
Dimensional Test.
o
Coating thickness by volumetric method.
o
Coating peel-off test by scotch tape testing.
o
DP test on anode Pan.
o
SEP value test.
o
Hydro test.
o
Planarity as per the OEM standards, use precision straight
edge and hand feel test at the beginning and later will
go for indicator gauge for planetary test.
o
SEP Value Test:
The SEP Test is conducting to determine the coating activity. The
single electrode potential (SEP) is measured to assure the quality
of the coating in relation to the environment to which it will be
operated. In theory, the method determines the contribution of
the anode coating to the total cell voltage. This is accomplished
by measuring the voltage of the coating against a standard
calomel reference.
Inspection:
by you at our site before shipment. If any third
party inspection is required, it will be arranged by you with your
cost.
