aware but most importantly is to lead by example through their action.
The proponent and the student organizations like YES-O (Youth for
Environment in School Organization) and SPG (Supreme Pupil Government)
carefully plans the activities to be undertaken considering the objectives of the
project, time frame and other resources. It was discussed to the school head
and was given an approval. Information was disseminated to the school
community through meetings and announcements.
Activities like ECO-a Day, ECO-likula, ECO-savers, ECO-Talk and

ECO-a Day- To be familiar with the environmental issues, every day a
learner or the teacher of each class will give some environmental facts, trivia,
pictures or news to share and learners will reflect how are they affected with
this and what simple things can they do to lessen the effects.
ECO-likula- To educate the learners on the current and future
situations of the environment, once a month, a film-viewing activity was done
after their lunch break. A Reflection paper about the movie watched will be
submitted to the leaders to be compiled.

each learner as part of Zero Plastic In project of the school. They also keep
school cleanliness by picking litters in their assigned area in school after
recess and lunch. Proper segregation of waste was practiced by each learner
as well as the regulated use of electricity and water led by the class officers.
Environmental advocacies and eco-movement was institutionalized in
the school through student organizations like YES-O and SPG . Teachers and
school head support the implementation of the project
The crafted Environmental Awareness Action plan is implemented in
the hope of increasing the degree of commitment of students towards
ecological conservation and lessen environmental problems to have cleaner,
safer school and community to live in.

Project Objective
1. Raise awareness about environmental issues and develop
environmental practices among learners making the school and
community cleaner, safe and livable.
2. Lessen environmental problems in school and community.
V.
Introduction
One of the most noticeable phenomena of the previous two decades
has been the rising concern with environmental concerns and its influence
on general awareness. The increasing depletion of the earth's natural
resources and the rapidly deteriorating environment are unavoidable truths.
These are the dire possibilities that endanger both man and the planet's life.
Environmental education is a process aimed at developing a world
population that is aware of and concerned about the total environment and
its associated problems and which has the knowledge, attitudes,
commitments, and skills to work individually and collectively towards the
solution of current problems and prevention of new ones.
In the Philippines, it is stated under Republic Act No. 9512, or the
National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008, that the

state shall promote national awareness of the role of natural resources in
economic growth and the importance of environmental conservation and
ecological balance towards sustained national development..
National Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008
recognizes schools for integrating environmental education into their
instruction, administration, and programs. Its goals include encouraging
schools/academic institutions to become more actively involved in
environmental issues at a practical and local level and developing skills and
understanding among students, faculty and school administrators in initiating
active responses and increasing community awareness and participation on
environmental concerns.
School plays an important role in the way children learn, and the ideal
place to introduce students to environmental awareness. Schools have a
responsibility to educate our future leaders. This should involve teaching
them more than numeracy and literacy skills. Children should also be
exposed to environmental awareness from an early age. The earlier
individuals learn about the environment, the sooner they’ll be able to
contribute to safeguarding it. The aim of exposing them to certain
environmental issues is for them to make caring for nature part of their lives.
It is for young people to develop a firm ecological mindset and use it to

overcome today's environmental challenges with a positive attitude and a
strong commitment. Involving schoolchildren in environment friendly
activities will help them grow into aware citizens of the planet who can also
make a difference to their communities
Deped under DM no 24 s.2019 National Search for Sustainable and
Eco-Friendly Schools, develop environmental policies for the school;
physical cleanliness, orderliness and beautification of the school; energy
and water, recycling; waste reduction, waste segregation, recycling and
composting ,vegetable gardening and marketing; reforestation and/or
nursery establishment etc. Schools also explore integration of environmental
themes into the school curriculum which includes trainings, seminars,
research, environmental awareness, fair, exhibit,; and promote linkages and
exchanges on the environment with different sectors.
In this regard, Banaba East E/S needs to take a step forward to raise
awareness on environmental issues as well as to lead the learners in
developing practices that will contribute to an eco-friendly school and
community through the implementation of a program. With the permission
and support given by the school head, Mr. Filomeno Madlangbayan, Mrs.

school, launch the project entitled PROJECT ECO- LEAD (ECO Learners Environmental Awareness and Practices Drive )
VI.
Rationale
With the belief that every learners must contribute something to make
the school and community a cleaner and safer place to live in, the proponent,
together with the student organizations raise the environmental awareness
and develop practices among learners towards an eco-friendly school and
community through a program that they conceptualized entitled PROJECT
ECO- LEAD (ECO - Learners Environmental Awareness and Practices
Drive ). This project is believed to help raise awareness about environmental
issues and develop environmental practices among learners making the
school and community cleaner, safe and livable and lessen environmental
problems in school and community. The said project is focused on the
implementation of activities as proposed in the action plan. The activities will
develop learners love for environment and raise their awareness on the
effects of their activities to it. It will also develop them into a responsible user
of the environment through the good practices that they will live into.

Impact of Project ECO-LEAD
Since that this project is intended to raise awareness about
environmental issues and develop environmental practices among learners
and to lessen environmental problems in school and community, its impact
was measured through observation and gathering feedback from the learners
themselves. Practicing reduce, reuse and recycle becomes a habit for the
learners. One hundred percent of the children use containers as food pack
every recess and lunch time making the school plastic less. They never bring
plastic to school. Used papers are collected in a box and are recycled. They
are very much aware of the exact time when to turn on the electric fan and the
light as well as to conserve water thus decreasing the amount of electric and
water consumption. Segregation of waste was very evident that even the
garbage collector was amaze on the practice. The garbage truck collects
lesser amount of garbage as the months passed by. It becomes normal for
everyone to pick litters even if it is not theirs, at home, in school and in the
community. Children love planting vegetables and caring for the trees. Most
of them use a view of the school garden as a subject in their Arts class. They
were also able to reason out the danger that their action may do to the
environment. Environmental issues such as deforestation, global warming,

greenhouse effect , erosion etc. reflects on most of their output for posters. As
you enter the community, you can see the eco-friendly ambiance and every
family’s garden is a proof of their contribution to a greener community.
Love for the environment transcends from the school to their homes
and the community. Children become an environmental steward and continue
to participate in creating a brighter future for the next generation.
