Maraviles, Winzy Hannah B. AB ENGLIS 2 ES 19/05/2023 Reaction Paper on our Landfill Before we decided on the structure and look of our landfill, we had our own research about what are landfills, what is their purpose and what is their characteristics. In my research, I noticed that landfills consisted of different layers. Landfills are one of the oldest methods of disposing trash, and this method is still used until today. Eventually, through time, these landfills gain structure rather than just simply being something that is composed completely of garbage. We made sure to understand what the landfill formation needs to do in order to form our own miniature DIY of a landfill with desserts or food in general as components. The first thing we did as soon as this task was announced was to think of a food item or a dessert that is extremely resistant to liquid. Naturally this was a bummer for us as most foods are generally susceptive to liquid aside from ice cream naturally. However we decided against ice cream as all of the members of our group come from far places and if we decided on an ice cream we would not know where to store it and most especially in this weather that is so hot that it could definitely melt an ice cream in mere moments. Eventually one of the common agreements between us was to use brownies. Brownies unlike other pastries was naturally fudgy and had more of a thicker consistency with little to no airholes between them. At the end, we decided on which ingredients to bring. Our basis of our landfill’s appearance was to remain as similar to a real landfill’s structure as possible, so we paid particular attention to the layers. We may have been too particular that we leaned towards appearance more than taste. In the end, our final decision to add sour strips on top was probably the MVP, as this candy was very hydrophobic and resistant to liquid.
