1. Resolve F1 into components along the u and v axes and determine the magnitudes of
these components. Solve graphically using parallelogram law and triangle rule. (Scale!)
Answer: Fu = 386.4 lb, Fv = 282.8 lb.
2. If  = 30° and F2 = 6 kN, determine the magnitude of the resultant force acting on the
plate and its direction measured clockwise from the positive x axis. Solve graphically
and using equilibrium equations. Answer: FR = 8.09 kN, Angle = 98.5°.
3. The log is being towed by two tractors A and B. Determine the magnitudes of the two
towing forces FA and FB if it is required that the resultant force has a magnitude
FR = 10 kN and be directed along the x axis. Set  = 15°. Solve using equilibrium
equations. Answer: FA = 3.66 kN, FB = 7.07 kN.
4. Determine the magnitude and direction measured counterclockwise from the positive x
axis of the resultant force of the three forces acting on the ring A. Take F1 = 500 N and
 = 20°. System is in equilibrium. Answer: FR = 1.03 kN, Angle = 87.9°.
5. Determine the tension developed in wires CA and CB required for equilibrium of the
10-kg cylinder. Take  = 40°. Answer: FCA = 80.0 N, FCB = 90.4 N.
