Subject: Gate Frame Design Calculation

I.
Aim:
To design a structural steel frame to replace the current concrete block wall, the objective of this
replacement is to increase the width of the gate.
The Frame were analyzed and designed by the STAAD Pro software. The results from the analysis
are enclosed in the STAAD output section.
II.
Frame Size:
Height = 3.7 m
Width = 6 m
III.
Design Loads:
1‐ Self‐weight (Assigned in STAAD pro)
2‐ Dead Load (weight of the concrete bricks + door sectional chase)
Approx. equal to four layers of concrete bricks
Concrete unit weigh load = 22 kN/m3
Size of the brick = 0.2 m x 0.2 m x 0.4 m
Uniform load for one layer per meter = 22 X 0.2 X 0.2 = 0.88 kN/m
Total for 4 layers = 3.52 kN/m
Design load = 1.4 x DL = 4.93 kN/m (Refer AISC‐7)
(Assigned in STAAD pro as uniform load = 5 kN/m)
