I. Introduction
Reading is an essential skill that pupils need to learn and
develop. Learning how to read is one way of decoding the text and
getting the meaning of a written work. Learners who struggle in
reading may find it difficult to read. So, it is important to help the
learners through the use of this reading material.
This reading material is designed for the Level 1 readers to be
able to achieve the skill they need to improve. This material is
composed of content-based reading activities which aim to
recognize the name and sound of a letter. At the end of this activity,
the learners should be able to identify the name of letters and
produce it sounds.
II. Objectives
Reading MELCs
Level 1
 Read the alphabet of English EN2AK-if-g-1
 Name the picture that begins with its name to a
particular consonant (Cc) EN2AK-llla-c-1.2
 Give the beginning sound of each consonant EN2AK-llla1.1
Content Focus: Count Nouns/ Letter Cc
Specific Objectives:
 Read and recognize the name and sound of letter Cc
 Name the pictures of count noun words that begin with
letter Cc
 Identify the beginning sound of each word
 Draw objects that start with letter Cc
 Write the capital and small letter Cc
 Appreciate the use of count nouns in familiarizing the
letter name and sound of Cc

III. Procedure
REVIEW
1. Show pictures with its name that begin with the letter
discussed last meeting.
ACTIVATE
1. Introduce a short story consisting of words that start with the
letter c. Ask the learners to repeat the words they hear that
start with the letter c and emphasize /c/ based on the short
story.
IMMERSE
1. Post pictures on the board consisting of count noun words
that begin with the letter c and the learners will name it. Use
explicit instruction in teaching the sound of letter.
2. Read and recognize the name and sound of the letters.
Find the letter c inside the cup then box it.
3. Name the pictures of count nouns that begin with letter c
then check the box whose picture starts with letter c.
4. Identify the beginning sound of each word. Color the
candy if the count noun word has the /c/.
SYNTHESIZE
1. Summarize the lesson and activities such as naming the
letter and producing its sound, give words that begin with
the /c/ and appreciate the use of count nouns in the
lesson.
EVALUATE
1. Recognize the count noun words which has the beginning
letter and sound of /c/.
2. Name and write the beginning letter of the pictures.
3. Identify the beginning sound and check (/) the words that
start with /c/ sound and cross (X) if not.
4. Draw 4 objects inside the box that start with letter Cc.

instruction. Write the capital and small letter Cc.

Directions: The teacher will read aloud the short story to the class.
The teacher will say, “Class, I have a short story and I will read it for
you. All you need to do is take note of the words that begin with
letter c or /c/ sound.”

Carlo has candies and cupcakes on their table.
He wants to give it to the kids passing by outside their
house. He also prepares gifts like cap, cup, card,
coins and cash for his siblings. His family enjoys the
songs of the carolers. His family attends midnight mass
or Simbang Gabi . His family enjoys the Noche Buena
because they are complete and having fun.
What are the words that begin with letter c?
The learners will answer Carlo, candies, cupcakes, cap, cup, card,
coins, carolers. The teacher will emphasize the beginning sound of
the words which is /c/. The teacher will say again the words and ask
the learners to repeat and give the beginning sound.

paper.
