5 QUESTIONS TO PONDER: 1. How will you build your relationship with your students? I will start knowing their stories and share even mine by introducing ourselves, so that I will be able to establish a connection with my students. Then, having a trust will follows because when we already know each other, they are more confident and comfortable to talk with their problems as well as achievements in their life. Playing a game or having an activity in class is also a way to build a good relationship with my students. Doing this will allow us to create happy memories while I’m in them. The bond we create will stick together and we only treat each other not only being as teacher and student but also as a family. I will become a father to them inside and outside the school. 2. How should your students view you? Teacher? Facilitator? Mentor? Cheerleader? Role model? Friend? All I wanted when my students view me is not only as a teacher but also being a mentor, who is willing to share knowledge and experiences to my students, molding them to be good in other fields, and guiding them to the path of success as could as I can. A cheerleader, who support the right decisions in their life and cheers them in victory and even failure. Also, as friend who can they talk and share with their problems and achievements. I am willing to listen no matter what it is, if I can help, I will extend my hands to them. A friend they can trust with their secrets and gives motivation when they feel disappointed. 3. Are you going to rely heavily on carrots (rewards)? Sticks (punishments)? I prefer to rely on both reinforcers (rewards and punishments). Giving a reward to students who deserve it will boost their confidence to do well in school and exert more efforts in doing a task or assignment given by the teacher. Moreover, the rewards they aim will excite them on how to achieve it. At this time, the student will set a goal on how to get it. Then, when the students have the reward, they already have the desire to do good and achieve more task. On the other hand, it also good to have punishment when the student is on wrongdoing because it weakens the behavior to repeatedly do what is unethical. I’m pretty sure that before they do that, they will think what punishments they’re supposed to face. 4. Do your words contribute to growth mindset or fixed mindset? Every single word that I say, its either good or bad comment/opinions, I’ll make sure that it really contributes to the growth mindset of my student that leads them to learn more. They should be ready to face criticism that I say, since I am the only one who see their performance inside and outside the school. This will help them to improve themselves from doing good in a task. Whenever and whatever challenges I gave to them, they should persist from doing it to be able to conquer their fears and developed their self-confidence. Furthermore, as their teacher, I’ll make sure that I will give advice and be a good role model, so that they will be inspired from continuing what they have started. Stay them from being motivated when no one believe and feel disappointed in life. 5. What are you doing to make your content relevant to student’s life? Before I introduce the lesson, I will give some of hints about our topic is, so that they will think and refreshen their memories. I will use and think of experiences or things they already know then relate it the lesson. This is the easiest way for them to understand what I am talking about and easily cope up with the lesson, since they know it and already experience it. Relating a lesson through stating a theory or principles that enables them to apply it real life situation. Also, using a realia or model is also a way for them to understand the concept what we discuss because they see it in actual and can be modified by them.
