3 Minute Thought- Week 2 I was introduced to the nursing profession at a young age because of my mother. She has been a Registered Nurse for over 30 years and has influenced my own choice to become a nurse. I saw that my mother was and is a great nurse that has the utmost compassion for the patients in her care. This compassion is what intrigued me about the nursing field. I realized that to be a good nurse, you need to be a compassionate caretaker. As someone that values helping others in their time of need, nursing seemed like the perfect career choice for me. Being a nurse, also, provides me with the additional benefit of job security and stability. While nursing is a career that prioritizes helping others, I have learned that you can’t help anyone if you don’t help yourself first. By being a nurse, I can confidently provide care for others with the assurance that I can take care of myself and my family. I won’t have to worry about potentially getting laid off because of recessions or stock market crashes. Nursing is a career that allows for a lot of professional growth. I have always enjoyed consuming information and knowledge about almost anything. This thirst for knowledge is ideal for a nursing career as the healthcare field is constantly changing and updating itself. This means that I will have the opportunity to always be learning new things to help me better perform my job. I can also further my education by attending graduate school for nursing. In this way, being a nurse means to have an almost unlimited opportunity for growth.
