QUALITATIVE RESEARCH REVIEW PAPER DUE DATE: FRIDAY MARCH 31, 2023 PURPOSE OF THE ASSIGNMENT: BASED UPON THE QUALITATIVE STUDY UTILIZED IN YOUR SMALL GROUP DURING THE COURSE This assignment will provide students with the opportunity to demonstrate both the skills of reading and evaluating a Qualitative Research Report. The first section of the paper will describe the research report using the questions in Section I (adapted from Locke, p. 210-211). The second section of the paper will engage with the research report by demonstrating critical thinking and application. Please draw upon (and refer to) Locke’s text (chp. 12; posted on our class Moodle page) in your assignment. SECTION I: READING AND EVALUATING THE RESEARCH REPORT (50% of paper) 1. Research Purpose and Question What is the purpose of the study? What is the research question? Why does the researcher feel this study is important? What are your evaluations on the research question and its rationale? 2. Design and Methodology What kind of qualitative design was used to conduct this study and why was that design chosen? Who was studied and how were they selected? How was the data collected and measured? What are your evaluations on the way the study was conducted? Could you see another way that this study could have been designed? Note strengths and limitations of the methodology. 3. Data Analysis How was the data analyzed? What are your evaluations on the way the data was analyzed? 4. Results and Conclusions – KEY ELEMENT OF THIS SECTION What were the general findings from the study? What are your evaluations on the findings and conclusions? PLEASE PROVIDE A THOROUGH OVERVIEW OF THE FINDINGS OF THE STUDY IN YOUR OWN WORDS (AND NOT JUST CUTTING AND PASTING FROM THE ARTICLE); PROVIDE ENOUGH DETAIL THAT DEMONSTRATES YOUR GRASP OF THE CORE FINDINGS AND THE THICK DESCRIPTIONS THAT WERE OBTAINED SECTION II: ENGAGING WITH THE RESEARCH (50% of paper) Your reflections on the study and its findings (e.g., do you agree with them, are there other questions that emerge for you, what other factors may need to be considered, any limitations, any further research questions that arise for you, etc) Points of theological reflections and integration in regards to the research question and findings and/or cultural reflections on the study (e.g., how might the findings integrate with a theological framework? What are some issues around culture that might influence or impact the findings and its application?) The implications and application of the finding into the clinical context and ministry (e.g., how might you utilize this kind of knowledge into your own clinical work, in how you see clients, in how you see yourself; how this kind of study contributes to the larger field of counselling; etc). PLEASE NOTE: Papers should be between 6-7 pages in length, double-spaced (content only; not including cover page and reference section), with the cover page and reference section in APA style and worth 25% of final grade.
