Defining Roles
• A role, sometimes called a social role, is a collection
of behaviors, attitudes, responsibilities and
expectations related to a particular position a person
fills in society.
Defining Responsibilities
• Doing what needs to be done to cater for the needs of family
members
Traditional Roles
• Roles that have been passed down through family
generations.
Traditional Roles of Males
Head of the
household.
Giving moral
instruction and
training.
Decision
maker
Administering
punishment
and sanctions.
“Breadwinner”
Traditional Roles of Females
• Care for children
• Counsellors
• Catering to the emotional and psychological needs of the
family.
• Doing Domestic Chores ( prepare meals etc)
