COURSE CODE : ACCTNG 102 II. COURSE TITLE : FUNDAMENTALS OF ACCOUNTING 2 – MERCHANDISE ACCOUNTING III. COURSE DESCRIPTION This course aims to develop in the students the knowledge and skills of recording, classifying, summarizing, and interpreting the daily business transaction of a Merchandising, as well as completing the cycle of Merchandising Business. It includes core competencies such as: Definition of Terms and Account Title, Chart of Accounts, Journalize Transaction, Post Transactions, Preparation of Trial Balance, Financial Reports, Closing Entries and Post Closing Trial Balance. Further, it discusses the special journal, payroll system and other related fields of the business. IV. V. VI. Credit Prerequisite Course Learning Outcomes : : 3 Units ACCTNG 101 Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to A. Cognitive By the end of this course, students will be able to explain the fundamental principles of merchandise accounting and demonstrate an understanding of the accounting procedures involved in recording and reporting merchandising transactions. They will be able to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze financial information, calculate inventory costs, and prepare financial statements. B. Psychomotor Upon completion of this course, students will be able to apply the accounting principles and procedures related to merchandise accounting to real-world scenarios. They will be able to demonstrate proficiency in recording transactions, preparing financial statements, and using accounting software. Students will also be able to apply the principles of inventory valuation, including FIFO, LIFO, and weighted average cost, to accurately calculate inventory costs. C. Affective The course will enable students to develop an appreciation for the importance of accurate financial reporting and ethical behavior in business. They will be able to demonstrate an understanding of the ethical considerations in accounting, such as conflicts of interest and the importance of confidentiality. Students will also develop an appreciation for the role of accounting in providing financial information to support decision-making in business.
