COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course aims to develop in the students the knowledge and skills of
recording, classifying, summarizing, and interpreting the daily business transaction of
a Merchandising, as well as completing the cycle of Merchandising Business. It
includes core competencies such as: Definition of Terms and Account Title, Chart of
Accounts, Journalize Transaction, Post Transactions, Preparation of Trial Balance,
Financial Reports, Closing Entries and Post Closing Trial Balance. Further, it
discusses the special journal, payroll system and other related fields of the business.

Upon completion of the course, the students will be able to
A. Cognitive
By the end of this course, students will be able to explain the fundamental principles
of merchandise accounting and demonstrate an understanding of the accounting
procedures involved in recording and reporting merchandising transactions. They will
be able to apply critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze financial
information, calculate inventory costs, and prepare financial statements.
B. Psychomotor
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to apply the accounting
principles and procedures related to merchandise accounting to real-world scenarios.
They will be able to demonstrate proficiency in recording transactions, preparing
financial statements, and using accounting software. Students will also be able to
apply the principles of inventory valuation, including FIFO, LIFO, and weighted average
cost, to accurately calculate inventory costs.
C. Affective
The course will enable students to develop an appreciation for the importance of
accurate financial reporting and ethical behavior in business. They will be able to
demonstrate an understanding of the ethical considerations in accounting, such as
conflicts of interest and the importance of confidentiality. Students will also develop
an appreciation for the role of accounting in providing financial information to
support decision-making in business. They will be able to work collaboratively and
communicate effectively, demonstrating an understanding of the importance of
teamwork and professionalism in the accounting field.

EXPECTATIONS FROM STUDENT:
The student’s responsibility is to come to each class prepared. S/he is also expected to take all
examinations on the date scheduled. S/he should read the assigned problems prior to class. She
is expected to attend each class and participate actively in the discussions.

ACADEMIC DISHONESTY
All students are expected to be academically honest. Cheating, lying and other forms of
unethical behavior will not be tolerated. Any student found guilty of cheating in examinations or
plagiarism in submitted course. Plagiarism refers to the use of books, notes or other intellectual
property without giving proper attribution to its author or representing the work of another
person as one’s own, Cheating refers to securing help in a test; copying test, assignments,
reports or term papers; collaborating with other students during an examination or in preparing
academic work; signing another student’s name on an attendance sheet; or otherwise practicing
scholastic dishonesty.
XI.
POLICY on ABSENCES
The allowed number of absences for students enrolled in a class follow the criteria below.
Request for excused absences or waiver of absences must be presented upon reporting back to
class, special examination will be allowed only in special cases, such as prolonged illness. It is the
responsibility of the student to monitor her/his own tardy incidents and absences that might
accumulate leading to a grade of “FA”. It is also her responsibility to consult with the teacher,
chair or dean should her/his case be of special nature.
For a 9-unit course meeting thrice a week allowable absence: 18
For a 6-unit course meeting thrice a week allowable absence: 14
For a 3-unit course meeting twice a week allowable absences: 7
For a 3-unit course meeting once a week allowable absences: 4
