PURPOSE
GTN 6XX/7XX software version 6.72 includes the following:
•
The “Enable ES" button on the transponder menu has been relabeled "ADS-B Out.”
NOTE
When the button status is green, ADS-B Out is being transmitted by the transponder.
Figure 1. ADS-B Out Button
•
•
•
Fixed an issue related to turn alerting logic when transitioning onto a direct-to fix (DF) leg from a
fly-over waypoint, the alerted course is now the DF leg course.
Fixed an issue when in a dual GTN installation with the CDI key configured to disabled, the Top of
Descent aural annunciation now only plays on a single GTN.
Added DB sync support with GNX 375.
Additionally, the GPS/WAAS software is updating from sw v5.3 to v8.3 to address the MSAS range rate
corrections issue identified in Garmin Service Advisory 20109 Rev B and restores MSAS to the set of
allowed SBAS service providers.
NOTE
If MSAS was disabled by the user under Garmin Service Advisory 20109, it will need to be
enabled after installing GPS/WAAS software v8.3. Refer to the applicable pilot’s guide for
instruction on how to enable MSAS.
DESCRIPTION
This modification consists of accessing the Garmin website and uploading GTN Main software version
6.72 and other software versions listed above.

Optional: This Service Bulletin may be incorporated at the owner’s discretion and is not warranty
reimbursable.
APPROVAL
GTN Main software version 6.72 and GPS/WAAS software version 8.3 are TSO approved. Refer to the
applicable GTN Installation Manual for additional approvals. The changes from GTN Main software version
6.71 and GPS/WAAS software version 5.3 are minor per 14 CFR 21.619.

NOTE
New format Navigation databases were introduced for GTN Main Software Version 6.21
and are required. Older format Navigation databases will NOT work with GTN Main
Software Version 6.72. A Navigation database update will be required. Current Navigation
database cycles include both the new and old formats. Make sure to select the
Navigation databases for GTN Main Software Version 6.21 or later when
downloading databases from fly.garmin.com.
NOTE
New format Obstacle databases were introduced for GTN Main Software Version 5.11 and
are required in order to support WireAware functionality and Windmill obstacles. Older
format Obstacle databases will work with GTN Main Software Version 6.72, but
WireAware and Windmill obstacles will not be supported. Make sure to select the
Obstacle databases for GTN Main Software Version 5.11 or later when downloading
databases from fly.garmin.com.
NOTE
The Loader Card identified in this section can be used to update previous versions of GTN
software directly to Main Software Version 6.72, NAV Software to Version 6.03, COM

·
COM Software Version 2.20 and earlier
COM FPGA Version 2.4 and earlier
NOTE
For installations with GMA 35 P/N 011-02299-0( ), GMA Audio Software Version
4.20A is required for compatibility with GTN Software Version 6.72. The Loader Card
identified above can be used to update previous versions of GMA 35 Audio Software to
Software Version 4.20A. See Service Bulletin 1657 for GMA 35 software update
instructions.
NOTE
For installations with GMA 35 P/N 011-02299-2( ) and GMA 35c P/N 011-02299-4( ),
GMA Audio Software Version 4.21C is required for compatibility with GTN Software
Version 6.72. The Loader Card identified in this section can be used to update previous
versions of GMA 35 Audio Software to Software Version 4.21C. See Service Bulletin 1655
