Prompt: Discuss why people should take action to address climate change, and what they can do about it.
Take One More Step to Protect the Climate
Our environment is like a big umbrella, providing human beings with homes and rich
resources on which to depend. Climate has played a decisive role in the development of
human beings and has a huge effect on people’s livelihoods, health, and future. However,
with the continuous development of human society and technology, the climate problem has
gradually emerged and become more and more serious. In this case, people began to take
various measures to recover the damage they had caused to the climate since it concerns
people's survival on the planet. By analyzing reduce, reuse, and recycle throughout the three
texts, it is evident that the conservation of climate has lasting positive effects on the
improvement of the global environment.
To begin with, the process of reducing in all aspects of life greatly eliminates carbon
emissions and waste resources, which in turn brings better air quality and improves global
health level. As an example, in the infotext “Reducing our Carbon Footprint: Five simple
actions” by Wicked Weather Watch, the author suggests that we should shut down the
electronic products that do not need to be used and avoid unnecessary waste of water
resources (Wicked Weather Watch.co.uk 2). Similarly, in infographic 1 "10 Tips for
Reducing Your Carbon Footprint" by Julie Salvatierra, the speaker states, “Try reducing your
printing a little bit each day, and reduce your bottled water consumption for seven days ”
(Salvatierra 1). What is more, the speaker of infographic 2 "What's the Current Situation
Like?" by easelly indicates that tons of carbon dioxide are produced in a year caused by
driving an average of 1000 miles a month, which is why people need to reduce the use of
vehicles (easelly 1). By comparing the three pieces of evidence, it is clear that reducing water,
electricity, and vehicles can directly control carbon dioxide emissions and pollution caused
by human activities in an acceptable range of the Earth's climate. In addition, reducing can
release the pressure on the environment and let people stick to a sustainable development
path to promote the sound development of climate. In this case, they will have more
motivation and a sense of achievement to contribute to climate change when they see the
environmental benefits brought by their efforts. Thus, people can save energy and reduce the
emission of air pollutants to the greatest extent by reducing the possibility of wasting
resources, so as to improve the global environment.
In conclusion, with the power of reducing, reusing, and recycling, people have the
opportunity to reverse the current severe climate to create a suitable environment for all
living things. Once everyone has taken the first step, they can take more actions driven by the
common well-being of all mankind. The efforts of each individual will unite to form a
collective force to fight against disasters and purify the air to improve the climate, thus
leading to a better future!
