▪ Our understanding around how they work changes with
scientific research and development.
▪ These very special cells help us understand the
sensory information that we receive from our
environment – sights, sounds, taste, smells and touch.

▪ Our ability to carry out, even the simplest tasks, relies very
heavily on our memories. Your capacity to learn a new task
is linked to your memory.
▪ At a glance our memory is divided into:
A little look
at…
Memory
▪ Sensory memory – information we receive from our senses
▪ Short term memory – information that we have recently
acquired and can access for as long as is necessary. How
much you paid for lunch at the canteen, for example.
▪ Long term memory – these are memories that build up over a
long period of time that are meaningful to you.
▪ We will look at these in a lot more depth later in the year.
▪ Cast your mind back to:
▪ A favourite meal
▪ A visit to the beach
▪ A favourite holiday
Thought

▪ A party you enjoyed
▪ A sport that you love playing or watching… Australian
