Vertical farming is the practice of growing crops in vertically stacked layers. The modern concept of vertical farming was proposed in 1999 by Dickson Despommier, professor of public health and environmental health at Columbia University. Despommier and his students designed a skyscraper farm that could feed 50,000 people. Vertical farming methods HYDROPONICS AQUAPONICS AEROPONICS refers to the technique of growing plants without soil. takes hydroponics one step further by does not require a liquid or solid medium for growing plants. Instead, a liquid nutrient solution is sprayed into air chambers where the plants are suspended. combining terrestrial plant production with aquatic production in a closed system that mimics nature itself.
