The Peloponnesian War Lesson 1, Week 5. Learning Intentions Criteria Students will complete research collaboratively in a Jigsaw activity to discuss the Peloponnesian War. / Success Students have successfully completed the Jigsaw activity in their small groups. The Peloponnesian War: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjbfS8RDoYo Task: The task you will be doing today is called a Jigsaw activity. What this means is that there are groups of 3 called Home Groups. This is the group you will come back to after the research activity - keep this in mind. Once in your Home groups, each person will split up into different Expert groups. This means that one of every group goes into a new group to research and analyse a topic given to them. In your Expert group, you will discuss what your topic is, its importance and what it teaches us about Athens/Sparta/Greek life. There are questions to help you in your discussion in each of your packs. Once you have mastered your information and discussed its significance (20 mins) with your other Experts, you will go back into your Home groups and teach the others what you have learnt. Using all the information you have gathered, you should be able to provide a summary/discussion of your topic. Your topics: Expert Groups 1. 2. 3. The First Peloponnesian War The Second Peloponnesian War The Third Peloponnesian War Your discussion questions for your Expert Groups are: - What was the cause of this particular war? Who were significant figures in the event? What is to note about each side’s warring capabilities? What was special or caused issues? What was the outcome? Discuss as a group and make sure your answers are cohesive and coherent. When back in Home Groups: 1. In order of war, discuss your questions and ‘teach’ the members of your Home Group the information you learned. 2. As a group, reflect on … - What have you learned about the Peloponnesian Wars? - Which war caused the breakdown of one society? - Who was ultimately the more successful city-state? 1. Individually, write a TEEEEL response on… Which was the more successful city state: Athens or Sparta? Use evidence to support your answer.
