IMPORTANT
Improving Reading
Fluency
Elementary:
1) Use ruler to follow along in order
to keep focused on material.
2) Read small passages at least twice,
once for familiarity and second
time for fluency.
3) Pull out words they had trouble
with during reading to make
flashcards with to review prior to
reading the next night.
4) Create a stress free environmenttake away distractions, keep area
comfortable and relaxing. This will
help with focusing and fluency.

words
R-Retell the most important part of the
text

High School:

selection.

7) Read short passages, look at
questions at each section check-up,
re-read passage again for fluency.
Re-read the passage a third time
for comprehension and answering
questions.
8) Record themselves reading and
playback audio to hear how they
sounded. This will help them
recognize what areas they need to
improve.
