sarap. I never knew traditional cuisines are so delicious. Pigafetta and Magellan are also loving their stay
here. Pigafetta wrote everything that had happened and tried his best to illustrate the place. They also
travel from island to island. Until, they decided to held a mass in Mazaua.
First mass
Magellan: Padre, together with our men, prepare the place for the mass.
*Talks to the interpreter.
Magellan: Tell the kings that we are not going to dine, but to celebrate the mass.

Magellan sprinkled water to the kings.

They arrived at the shores of Mactan three hours before sunrise. Magellan sent a message to the natives
saying.
Magellan to natives: If you still refuse to recognize the Spanish king and pay tribute, they will demonstrate

Magellan's muskets and armor were ineffective against spears, bows, and arrows, leading to panicked
firing. The natives fired arrows, spears, and stakes at the captain-general and our men, making it difficult
to defend ourselves.

Realizing that they were no match for the natives they so underestimated, Magellan being desperate.
Magellan: distract the natives by burning their houses.
The captain was wounded by a large cutlass by one of them, which caused him to fall face downward,
leading to their killing.

SCENE 1
The scene starts with Pigafetta talking to Magellan about tomorrow’s battle.
PIGAFETTA
Is everything prepared for tomorrow?
MAGELLAN
(While fixing his clothes)
Of course. Don’t worry too much it is all going to be over.
Pigafetta looked closely at Magellan.
PIGAFETTA
Does it have to be this way?
MAGELLAN
They don’t accept us. There’s simply no other choice.
PIGAFETTA
But many will die.
MAGELLAN
(Stares at Pigafetta)
All for the sake of salvation.
Magellan finished fixing his clothes. He walked a little past Pigafetta and puts his hand on his shoulder as
though he was comforting him.
MAGELLAN
For God, and for the motherland
Magellan then continues walking away. The camera pans to Pigafetta. He looked broody and pale,
knowing what it is to come.
PIGAFETTA
(Whispers to himself)
For God and country, huh?
The camera views his back for a second, showing the lonely back of the chronicler.

The scene cuts to the setting where the battle happens. People killing people. Blood everywhere.
Pigafetta brought the MC to hide.
PIGAFETTA
You are not allowed to be out there.
MC
What is going on outside?
PIGAFETTA
You don’t want to know, and you don’t need to know. Just remember that it's dangerous to go outside
right now.
MC
Why? They won’t harm you.
PIGAFETTA
Yes, they won’t harm me, but you on the other hand…
MC
What about me?
PIGAFETTA
Do you think I don’t know that you are one of them, child? Your features show much more than what
you had intended. If others found out or if your people found out, not only will I be in danger, but you
will also be put into harm. Still, you are my friend. An ALIVE friend. I want to keep it that way.
MC
(Shocked and stunned for a moment)

PIGAFETTA

Pigafetta then, moved slightly away from MC to look for a good vantage point. Meanwhile, MC,
seemingly not heeding the words of the chronicler, sticks her head out of their hiding spot. Little did she
know that there was someone who saw her doing that.

The soldier did what he was told. He went over to the hiding spot of Pigafetta and MC’s hiding place. He
slowly crept towards the closest person to him, the MC. But just as he was in the range to do so, he
stepped on something that made a sound. Pigafetta, upon hearing that sound, abruptly looked in MC’s
direction just in time to see the Filipino soldier swinging his sword with wild abandon.
PIGAFETTA
Bambina NOO!
Pigafetta ran with all his might blocking MC’s back using his body. A cold and wet sound rang through
MC’s ears as she closed her eyes and tried to protect herself from harm.
SQUELCH!
BANG!
A gunshot echoed throughout the field, joining the symphony that is the war on the island of Mactan. A
melody consisting of gunpowder and swords yet what rang most powerfully in the ears of the protected
child was the sound of the blade entering a person’s back. A gunshot was quickly fired in response but it
was too late. The deed was done.
PIGAFETTA
(Smiles like nothing happened)
Are you alright, child?
MC
(Hurriedly and frantically speaking)
You’re bleeding! Qui-quick! Get some help!
MC tries to run to call for help, but Pigafetta holds her arm and does not let go. He slowly succumbed to
his knees while saying:
PIGAFETTA
Wait! I know my body. It’s too late. The deed has been done. Here….
Pigafetta reaches into his inner pocket and pulls out a diary.
PIGAFETTA
(Handing over the diary)
Keep it. Keep it and RUN child. You have been spotted by the natives. They won’t spare you since
they’ve seen you in our camp. Keep this diary and yourself safe to the best of your ability.
MC
I’ll call Magellan. Surely, he will come to your aid, right?
PIGAFETTA
LISTEN TO ME. Go now and run. Find a safe place to hide, just not here. Now GO!
Pigafetta pushes her with all the strength he could muster at that point. MC stands up, holding the diary
that contains a copy of all the details of Pigafetta’s journey from the start till the end.
As MC stands up, FILIPINO SOLDIER 1 sees her and starts running after her. MC, now fully realizing the
dangers of being here, starts running in the direction of the classroom. The classroom where it all
began.

SCENE 3
She arrived, finally.
She quickly opened the door and slammed it behind her while crouching just beside the door she came
through, hoping that she will not be seen from the windows. She grabs her head and tries not to sob as
she wallows in guilt and self-pity.
Footsteps went by and faded away. She ascertains that she’s safe for now. She remembers the letter
from the desk. She knows what she has to do.
She stands up and hurriedly puts the diary inside her bag. After that, exhaustion took place as she sat
down on her chair. Feeling drowsy she decides to take a nap to recharge herself in case something else
will happen.
A little while later, she woke up with a BANG and stood up suddenly. She felt disoriented and confused
about where she was. She looked around and noticed the familiar faces of her classmates. They, who
had disappeared since the start of her dream suddenly appeared again. She was happy, so happy in fact
that she forgot she was standing in the middle of the classroom with her professor in front.
PROFESSOR
Would you like to share what happened in your dream, Ms. MC, that made you jump on your seat while
in my class?
MC, a little disoriented, chanced upon what was written on the board.
“.... Although Pigafetta, the Chronicler, was in a dire state in the battle of Mactan, he survived barely
clinging to his life, and later published his book, the ‘First Voyage’.”
