John Wesson Dr. Nader HU 142 March 10, 2022 Annotated Bibliography “Struggling for Work | Chinese | Immigration and Relocation in US History | Classroom Materials at the Library of Congress” “Struggling for Work” talks about how the first generation of Chinese immigrants struggle to make a living wage. Most of them were men and had to work in factories or work on railroads. Chinese Americans were seen as the cheapest workers for labor jobs. They were treated horrible and would get killed from the labor demanding work they had to do for very low pay. It explains how after a long time from working on the railroads they were able to get different jobs. I can use this for the project because it shows the struggle that Chinese Americans had to face when they first immigrated to america. With a massive lack of respect that they had and how they were basically used as free labor, some of the most dangerous jobs were not paid well at all. It also shows how over time they became more respected and were able to have better business and could build a good name for themselves along with a decent living. Asian Americans Then and Now.” Asia Society, https://asiasociety.org/education/asianamericans-then-and-now. “Asian Americans Then and Now.''talks about the great strides that asian americans had to make in America with all odds against them. How they were used for cheap labor and the very dangerous jobs that the Americans did not want to work. They were not allowed to do most of the same activities as Americnes could do. They were very disrespected and couldn't own their own business after a long time of being here. Over time they fought for more rights and were given them. I can use this for the project to show the struggle that Chinese Americans had when they first came over to America and how they grew and fought for what they have now. It talks about a long period of time and gives me a lot of information on what they went through and how they overcame all the problems that Americans gave them.
