Expt : Name: Elizabeth Bonner Date Grade 12 : January 31,2023 Topic : Structural Bonding Aim : To classify compounds as ionic or covalent based on their physical properties. Apparatus & Materials: compounds labelled A, B, C and D, test tubes, test tube rack, test tube holder, glass rod, 250cm3 beaker, spatula, Bunsen burner, electrical circuit, propanone, distilled water Procedure: 1. A small amount of sample A was placed in a test tube and heated gently then more strongly until there was no further change. The observations were recorded. 2. A small amount of sample A was added to 20cm3 of distilled water. The results were recorded, dissolved or not. The meixtyre was then tested with an electrical circuit to findout if it conducted electricity. 3. Step two was repeated with propane instead of distilled water. 4. Steps 1 to 3 were repeated with the other samples B, C and D.
