Acad Year/Semester: AY2022/2023 Semester 2 Weightage: 30% of total assessment marks (Assignment + Practical submissions) Assignment Type: Individual Assignment Specifications This assignment is part of the Continuous Assessment (CA1) for ST1004 ISEC. For this assignment, you are to perform a research on EITHER ONE of the following: (a) A case study of a past case around the world of an Information Technology-related security breach. The research is to cover: (i) what security breach it was, i.e. what kind of malware attack, or what kind of hacking was done etc; (ii) what damage did it cost to the organization or party being attacked; (iii) what was done to repair the damage; (iv) what was the lesson learnt and what could have been done to have prevented it in the first place; (v) any other interesting facts of the case. OR (b) A case study of an Information Technology-related security tool (either software or hardware). The research is to cover: (i) the features of this tool (ii) in what way does each of these features offer protection (iii) how this tool can be installed or implemented in order to start protection? (iv) how much does this tool cost? (v) any other interesting facts that you have discovered, like for example, reviews of how the tool has been useful or not. 1 ISEC (ST1004) Assignment Deliverables and Deadlines 1. Select a research topic and ensure that there are no duplicate topics within the same class. 2. Prepare a set of PowerPoint slides for your research topic. The slides (file size < 3 MB) must be submitted in BrightSpace by end of Week 15 (Fri 27 Jan 2023). 3. Do a class presentation in Week 16 (30 Jan to 3 Feb 2023). Your tutor will inform you of the actual day of presentation. Maximum duration of presentation is 5 minutes. Be prepared to answer questions too. Students who are absent on the day of presentation will be given zero marks. No extension will be given. Students who apply LOA based on medical or compassionate grounds will be considered on a case-by-case basis. Students in such cases will need to inform the lecturer as soon as reasonably possible. Students are NOT to assume that extension is automatically granted when they apply LOA.
