Pop the Balloons! (Game Show) This game inspired by Willie Revillame’s Will Time Big Time popular segment “Putukan Na” wherein the contestants’ aim is to finish popping the balloons ahead of the others to be able to win. Its modification includes the first group who finishes popping the balloons will be given the chance to answer the prepared questions on a particular topic in any subject. When To Use: For activities aimed to deepen the understanding of the learners on various concepts as well as appreciation of the significance of a particular topic. Objectives: This activity aims to develop the students’ ability to: Collaborate with others in solving problems Take responsibility for learning; Plan, assess and analyse information; and Summarize or note important details Resources/Requirements: Host; contestants divided in groups; audience; balloons (number may vary depending on the number of participants); questions about the chosen topic; computer, LCD Projector; power point presentation; canned music; prizes/merit. Guidelines/Procedures: 1. Determine the topic/s that will be discussed using this activity. Prepare the people who will take over- the host/s in particular. Questions of various types about the topics covered shall be prepared as well. 2. The balloons should be brought by the students. Also, the fellow teachers should be informed in advance in the nature of this activity which may be distracting or noisy because of the enjoyment it brings. 3. Participants should position themselves in the area designated. They must be divided into several groups. They might be paired accordingly. 4. The balloons assigned per group must be popped by the students. The group who finishes ahead of their competitors shall be declared as the winner and will be given a chance to answer the main questions for the day. 5. Pinching of balloons and use of pointed objects during the game is strictly prohibited. Violations would mean disqualification from the game. 6. Answering the questions would mean additional grade, merit or prize from the professor. 7. In other occasions, the game may be modified. The contestants might be divided into pairs and each pair may be put into a challenge. Questions written on strips of paper may be placed inside the balloons wherein the first one who pops the balloon containing the question may answer it at once; answering it correctly entitles the lucky winner to a prize.
