REVIEW THE KEY BIBLE VERSES: Talk 1: Anointed Meanwhile, Jesus was in Bethany at the home of Simon, a man who had previously had leprosy.7 While he was eating, a woman came in with a beautiful alabaster jar of expensive perfume and poured it over his head. 8 The disciples were indignant when they saw this. “What a waste!” they said. 9 “It could have been sold for a high price and the money given to the poor.” 10 But Jesus, aware of this, replied, “Why criticize this woman for doing such a good thing to me? 11 You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me. 12 She has poured this perfume on me to prepare my body for burial. 13 I tell you the truth, wherever the Good News is preached throughout the world, this woman’s deed will be remembered and discussed.” (Matthew 26:6-13 NLT) There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land. (Deuteronomy 15:11 NIV) “Beloved friends, what should be our proper response to God’s marvelous mercies? To surrender yourselves to God to be his sacred, living sacrifices. And live in holiness, experiencing all that delights his heart. For this becomes your genuine expression of worship.” (Romans 12:1 TPT) Fulfilled The Process and Passion to Completion Talk 1: Anointed “…you have abandoned the passionate love you had for me at the beginning.” (Revelations 2:4 TPT) “I want to know Christ and experience the mighty power that raised him from the dead.” (Philippians 3:10 NLT, emphasis mine) “We hear that some among you are idle and disruptive. They are not busy; they are busybodies.” (2 Thessalonians 3:11 NIV) III. ASK FOR REACTIONS AND REFLECTIONS: Ask: 1. Do you see loving the poor as coming out of your love for God? How? 2. Do you see examples of “extravagant worship” and “true worship is costly” in your life? Share experiences on the 3 Ways To Serve Jesus in the Suffering: 1.First, Welcome the Needy into Your Life Before you give your money, give your heart. Spend time with those in need. Talk with them. Laugh with them. Befriend the people in the periphery. People you don’t usually deal with. Believe me, at the very core, you’re the same: You’re God-carriers. 2. Second, Earn More To Give More Helping the needy shouldn’t just be a nice thing to do. It must now be the purpose of your work. Set aside a portion of your monthly income as your Alms. 3. Third, Ask God How He Wants You To Love the Poor Go to Jesus and pray, “How do You want me to serve You in the suffering?” Trust that He will give you a special assignment.
