Hello and welcome to my presentation, in which I will expand on the app initiative.
As we discussed in the report, an app can bring many advantages to ReEV. Here, I would like to
expand on and take a deeper look at this initiative, as well as why it is in ReEV’s best interest.
Firstly, let us focus on e-business and why it is an important, even necessary step in the right
direction for ReEV. E-business is much broader than just buying something online and in reality, it
changes how organizations interact with their customers. As touched on in the report, E-businesses
also have the advantage of being able to quickly and easily gather data on customer behavior and
preferences. This can help ReEV customise their products and services and target their marketing
efforts more effectively. For ReEV to stay competitive, developing an e-business is needed. We
mainly distinguish between B2B, B2C, C2C, and G2 Constituent. In our case the most relevant option
is B2C, but the app will contain aspects of B2C as mentioned in the repo. This is due to ReEVs
business model, which lies in upgrading vehicles and selling converted ones.
Being online is not sufficient enough, and the e-business model must be strong, taking the form of
online retailing combined with the sense of an online community. For these reasons, an ReEV app is
a potential e-business initiative, we now take a closer look at this initiative.
Now, let us take a look at the priority matrix, which allows me to evaluate potential initiatives and
prioritize them along two key dimensions: the ease of implementation and the potential returns. The
ease of implementation includes several factors such as costs, and the time required, while the
potential returns can be in terms of revenues, market shares, or reputation.
An app initiative for ReEV would represent high effort, due to its complex nature and the amount of
focus it takes. On the other hand, it opens up new opportunities with easier access for customers
and has the potential to reach a larger customer base. It is important to state that after the
implementation, it can help cut costs. For these reasons, an app implementation for ReEV is placed
in the upper left corner and poses a great opportunity for ReEV to increase revenues, although can
still be considered a risky endeavour.
Now that we have analyzed the initiative, let us look at a key element not discussed previously,
which is the build or buy decision. Where we decide to create our own ReEV app or buy an existing
one, which will need significant customization in order to meet ReEV’s business needs. In oue case,
purchasing existing software will prove to be the better option, as it will save costs, which ReEV will
need with taking on many other costly projects mentioned in the report, and will take less time to
develop and introduce to customers. Also, an ReEV app is not particularly a niche app and an existing
one could be customized to ReEVs need. It is also clearly not one of ReEVs core competencies to
build an app from scratch.
Another factor that was not looked into is the search engine optimization, which will provide
visibility. As it is mentioned in the book, “If an organization’s link is not in the top 30, it does not
exist”. SEO is a series of practices ReEV can take to improve visibility and how the app will show up.
ReEv should take the path of paying for placement, in the form of sponsored links. Another potential
option would be keyword binding, but this can prove more costly and thus not desirable. It is
important to mention that this is not a one-time effort and ReEv must optimize often to stay
competitive. This can be also viewed as a downside, as the SEO and the app overall will need
constant attention and optimisation for it to compete with other, bigger companies.
FINALLY , AN APP CAN BE MORE ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY THAN TRADITIONAL BRICK AND MORTAR
BUSINESSES. AN APP DOES NOT REQUIRE PHYSICAL SPACE , DOES NOT NEED TO BE HEATED , WHICH OVERALL
REDUCES THE CARBON FOOTPRINT . ADDITIONALLY , AN APP CAN REDUCE THE NEED FOR PAPER AND PACKAGING
MATERIALS, WHICH CAN ALSO HELP THE ENVIRONMENT . THIS CORELATES WITH THE OVERALL GOAL AND VISION
OF
REEV .
