1. Tropicamide – Blocks parasympathetic 1 drop ea
2. Phenylephrinen – Enhances sympathetic 1 drop ea
Order for the patient at bedside, and keep the rest!
Takes 5-10 minutes to work, and it lasts 6 hours, so tell the nurse what you did!
Direct Opthalmoscopy
Dial is at Diopeter
Most people are near sighted, so that would be “red” or “-“. So if you are near
sighted, use -4 to start.
If patient is far sighted, she is “+”. Then the dial should be “0”
Use the SMALLEST shape of light possible, unless they are dilated.
The green light shoes the nerve fiber layer
When you come in , find the red reflex first, then hone in. Com in at the angle of the
optic nerves!!
