A&HL 4077 Boblett Corrective Feedback Analysis (5+ page paper) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUYqCGcRoOw&list=UUeEcVAqDA7Ro8KCL_8apVQ Go to the youtube.com clip and watch the videotaped ESL class. 1. Begin your paper with a short introductory paragraph. 2. Then choose four instances of the use of corrective feedback during the lesson (not from the error review at the end) and do the following with each instance: a. Transcribe what is said in the S-T exchange (usually 4-6 lines; include the time so it can be easily located in the clip). Example: S: and he ask me that T: did you mean asked? S: um ask? T: hard to pronounce, right? S: yeah, ask? T: ok, number 3? b. Identify and categorize the specific error that has occurred (e.g., tense problem, pronunciation difficulty, specific lexical problem, etc.). There may be more than one error in a single utterance. c. Describe in prose how the error was addressed by the teacher. Name the type of corrective feedback employed (e.g., explicit correction, recast (implicit→explicit continuum), metalinguistic cue, elicitation, etc. See B&L, pages 380-384). d. Evaluate the use of the corrective feedback type employed by the teacher and how the student seemed to respond (verbal and/or non-verbal response), to the feedback. e. Discuss other options you would consider using and justify. 3. Finish with a short concluding paragraph.
