Difference between generations Nowadays, civilization faces some misunderstandings between so-called “old generation” and “new generation”. Reasons to this are the age difference, another views and meaning of life, different ways of upbringing, coming of new technologies and discoveries and unlike times of living. In 80’s William Strauss and Neil Howe, who were writers, were met in Washington. They were discussing what caused the absence of common ground between generations. Soon, was published their work known as “Theory of generations” which was telling about specific cycles of times. Both of them were convinced that each generation has a number of recurring features: they live in the same historical time and in the same conditions, sharing the same views. The cycle lasts 80-90 years. Each stage of the cycle is 20-25 years, and archetypal representatives of the generation are born in it. People, who were born in 1940-1964, are called “Boomers”. The name of the generation went due to the outbreak of birth (boom) after the Second World War. They lived in a relatively stable time and were united by the idea of a bright future and recovering after the war. Those, who came to world in 1965-1981, have another name – “Generation X”. “X” means “lost” due to the times of reconstructions and decline in the birth rate that followed the demographic explosion. The most important values for them are family, house, car and stable job. People of this generation know that only hard work is necessary to achieve success. They do not expect everything from life at once “Generation Y” or “Millennials” (1982-1996 / 2004) – they are today's youth. This is a generation that loves to learn, but the process is completely different, because in times when the information age is coming, the value of information itself is changing. Are there any arguments and disputes between the representatives of generation types? - Definitely yes. That is why it is hard for parents to understand their children, because of a big gap between generations. There always has been a blame from the side of Boomers, that life we live now is awkward and youth is ill-mannered. However, our generation is the most tolerant and powerful. We have a strong soul, our own opinion and can totally change the world in a better way. The Y generation does incredible exploits like Maidan in Ukraine or participating in war which has been started this year by russia. Moreover, we try to fix all the fails of the previous generations and unfortunately most of “adults” do not appreciate this and evaluate it on merit. The theory of generations explains properly why there are some difficulties of communication between adults and youth and why they are so different. Each of them has some values, knowledge, behavior and views of the world depending on time they were born and there is no use to judge each other. The solution to misunderstanding can be a respect from every side and come to terms with the fact that time is passing so that everything around us is constantly changing.
